NFL.com has the Rams WR’s ranked #9 in the league.

I tell you Woods and Kupp don’t get the respect they deserve outside of LA.

Just looked at the stats. Looks like all short throws 7/9 for 56 yard (6.2 average).
Although Goff has earned the reputation of being a dink and dunk QB, I will beg to ask this:

who does he have to throw to?

Golladay and Jones are gone. They have an oft injured Tyrell Williams and a bunch of unknowns at WR, and Hockinson at TE, who is good, but doesn’t have speed to get open downfield. He is a slot/crossing route TE.

until the WR’s prove they can get open downfield, then Goff’s stats are going to continue to look that way.

He had receivers last year and was 7.2 which tied for 21st. For unknown reasons, he doesn't seem like he wants to go downfield anymore. Fortunately, that is no longer our problem.

Don't know why Guff is gun shy about going downfield but he has not been the same since the snooperbowl loss. Maybe the OC and the HC contributed to this regression by losing faith in the guy and Guff had a bevy of receivers to go deep with his entire career with the Rams. We shall see if Stafford has no problem going deep and how he can complete the bombs-away category that Guff apparently coulda, shoulda, woulda and didn't.

Here is a list of FAs available right now that could help our weak areas. Duke Johnson (RB) is available as are Austin Reiter (Center), Rick Wagner (OT), and David DeCastro (OG).

And who was the downfield target last season?

Woods and Kupp are slot WR’s. They had no one last season to stretch the field, thus the focus on getting Jackson and Atwell.

Woods and Kupp are great at what they do, but they aren’t speed guys. When Reynolds is considered your deep threat, you have issues. Thus Goff’s low YPA average.

show me guys consistently getting open downfield last season that Goff ignored and I will change my stance.

Truth is, it was a rare occurrence last season, and when that happens, it’s hard to pull the trigger because you are used to throwing underneath due to the lack of separation downfield.

i agree with this assessment... it's also probably why the WR core is ranked #9 as neither WR is a true #1. Both are quick and Woods is faster but neither will blow the lid off.

One of our deep receivers in the last several years with Guff was in the TE category. That of course would be Tyler Higbee.

That is a sad fact.

Higbee is no Pitts speed-wise.

hopefully Harris can develop quickly and then we may have something at the TE position we have never had ( speed and size ).

I like the Rapp for Dillard swap. That would be very good for both teams. The Noteboom scenario is a good one as well. I think Noteboom's days are numbered and receiving a 3rd rounder would be nice draft collateral increase. They should pull the trigger on another trade.

Also, since watching Shelton for the two preseason games that I have, I believe he has beaten-out Allen for sure. Especially with the run, which we desperately need and he is pretty good in pass protection as well. Shelton is another John Sullivan. Allen is a douchebag.

When we had Blythe, we were highly susceptible to A-gap blitzes. The Raiders knew that after watching Blythe just get annihilated in the New England snooperbowl who Belicheat discovered was a weakness we had. They tried it again with Shelton in there and he stopped it cold. Further, Shelton has allowed no A-gap sacks in two preseason games.

To be fair, we will have to see how he does against staring D's to come but I think he is worth the shot.

This is another interesting idea. I say, send the Jets Floyd, Allen, and Daca for say a second and third rounders and Josh Adams, a bruiser of a RB.

Once again, everyone knows what apparently McSnead either can't see or do not want to see. But this article names the problem as everyone knows it to be with the Rams O.

This article explains it out pretty well. Deayon especially is a poignant case of the blindness of the McVay coaching tenure.

Markaway and Hoecht are both definite excellent finds for the Rams. Hoecht was on our PS all of last year and he will def make people forget Morgan Fox. Markaway is going to make Hopkins expendable just in the same way that Shelton is making McVay look like a dumbass when it comes to O-lineman, with McVay thinking that Allen is the answer at Center when clearly he is not.

If the Rams are going to do nothing on the Dilliard front, KC released Bryan Witzmann. Still has some gas in the tank I think.

The once promising career of the UCLA QB known as Josh Rosen is just about done. What a shame.

Just when you think someone's career is toast, a huge sucker steps forward and apparently attempts to revive it.
