But if the reports are true, he is basically playing for free because the Rams were on the hook for the 5M anyways ( which is what they agreed to supposedly ) and the additional 3M he was supposed to get is now incentive based.

Why did Tavon Austin agree to stay with the Los Angeles Rams?

I agree with you and everything about him, but a few things... First, he will be VERY motivated this season. Even if we don't end up keeping him(which I hope we don't)this season will be an audition for his impending free agency... Second, I doubt he will play much. Third, once in a while he does make a nice play(which is ALL you can hope for with this guy)...
In conclusion, I didn't want him anymore, but this kind of contract should certainly motivate this schmuck...
