Yeah, the two options mentioned have either been moved to RT or G by their current teams. Doesn't make me very enthusiastic. Matt Kalil is also a UFA, but can't imagine the Vikes will let him go. He's coming off his 5th year option just like Reiff and made $11M last year.
Vikings don't have a 1st rounder I believe so no way they let Kalil walk.
Very true...
I won't be surprised if they let him walk. He had hip surgery this year but he has been a major disappointment for a top 10 pick. Not just this year but since he was drafted.
Tough to let someone walk without a replacement though. This incoming LT crop is pretty thin, getting someone better than Kalil in the mid 2nd or later is going to take some serious luck.
I'm thinking they will only if they can't land another FA OT. He shouldn't be the first choice. Shouldn't be the Rams first choice either.
The other choices are guys that their current teams are moving to RT and G. I fully expect the Vikings to retain him.
What about Whitworth? He is by far the best LT available. I don't care he is 35. he showed no sign of slowing down. He was ranked the 2nd best OT by PFF in 2016. I would have no problem giving him a 3 year 10m a year deal.
If we are using age as a determining factor, it's using hindsight referring to Jake's career ending at age 28, the age he signed the deal with the Rams. (He's 31 now) but still the point is valid, 35 years old is not the time in ones career, to be giving out multi year deals, and I don't see him signing with any other team unless it's a multi year deal, especially the Rams.Whitworth is at the end of his career just like Jake Long was.

Even a two year deal puts a 37 year old at Left Tackle.
I say no dice!
Jake was not injury prone in Miami, he had a 61 game starting streak during his time there. He did have some back trouble in 2011 and a torn bicep that put him on IR the following season before he signed with the Rams in March of 2013.I don't know.. Like I said he was an absolute stud last year. If he dropped off 50% he would still be way better then Grob. I don't think he has been injury prone like Long. Ill take the bet that someone will give him a multi year deal.
The big question is, what do we do with Robinson?
Wisdom counters youth.....especially in the trenches.I don't know.. Like I said he was an absolute stud last year. If he dropped off 50% he would still be way better then Grob. I don't think he has been injury prone like Long. Ill take the bet that someone will give him a multi year deal.
The best ability is availability.....health trumps all especially in the trenches.Wisdom counters youth.....especially in the trenches.
I believe we would definitely need to overpay him to get him to come to LA on a one year deal, maybe not so much with a two year deal.Whitworth is worth a shot on a one or two year deal max, but how much will it take to get him to LA?
