Not sure we have to keep Trumaine at that high price.

The draft is loaded at CB and we could pick up one in FA. That's alot of money to commit to the defense with the offense needing alot of help and they are going to need money for Donald.

I like us to go after a LT in free agency maybe Riley Reiff.

He’s not going to get confused with the top left tackle, but Riley Reiff (+6.8) is a good left tackle in a league that craves them. Given the performances of some recent first round picks, that’s a win.

He's going to be expensive. Free agency would be the preferred way to go though, unless Saffold can switch with Robinson at LT (hasn't proven effective there in the past though).

Whitworth is out there too, he is pro bowler but 35 years old.

Reiff made $8M last year on his 5th year option with the Lions. Gotta think they're looking to keep him.

Whitworth also had a cap hit of $8M last year, but would only be a temporary fix. Rams would still need to draft an OT early IMO.

Isn't he a RT? Taylor Decker is the Lions' LT, right?

He was a left tackle until last year, when the Lions wanted to put their rookie to start at LT

Let me get this straight, Battlelyon. Kevin Greene has five years experience as a LBs coach with Green Bay, the Rams hire Sean McVay, who has less than three years as an assistant coach, and you're concerned that Greene has insufficient experience to be a DC? Compared to Phillips that might be true, but Greene has the experience to be a DC in the NFL.

To be fair, McVay has been coaching at the NFL level for 7 years now. Still don't understand why Greene would be a better fit than Phillips at DC just because he might run a 4-3 defense.

I would still give him a 3 year deal 10m a year. He has been an absolute stud the last 5 years and has shown no decline in performance. His dominance would go a long way for the rest of our guys on the Oline to follow.

Great point RR!

Still I prefer the additional experience with Phillips as opposed to Greene for much of the reason you mention here about McVay. With a more tenured HC, taking a flyer on Greene as an OC to me make more sense.

Funny, all this talk about the 4-3 and the 3-4, and Phillips and Greene, I can't think of a better player in his prime other than Greene to fit well in a Phillips tweener system. (Well maybe a few others but you get the point)

It's gotta make you think that maybe Tree will be used in a similar fashion if the Rams can increase the stable of quality LBs.

Giving a 35 year old LT a 3 year deal is exactly what the old regime would do and it's not smart.

I disagree, you get somebody who has been an all pro mentoring these young guys . He can teach them better than a coach can. You need a leader at every position, we sure are lacking one on the offensive line.

Jake Long experiment? We need the young guys to get a sack and play angry. Plain and simple

Name me one 35 year old free agent on the Oline or Dline that was worth his contract?

I'm not going to argue, that is rare. Whitworth has played his best ball in the last few years, but you never know.

Even the Great Orlando Pace, at age 33, played only the most part of his first year in a 3 year deal with the Bears.

I wouldn't give him more than a 1 year deal with a team option for a 2nd. His cap hit for 2016 was $8M (1 year contract), but that contract was only guaranteed for $1M with performance bonuses and roster bonuses. If that was the best he could get coming off Pro Bowl appearances in 2015 and 2016, first team All-Pro in 2015 ,and second team All-Pro in 2014, why throw a 3 year, $10M per deal at him at his elevated age? The Bengals want him back, but they are also considering moving him inside to guard.

From Spotrac:
  • $1M of 2016 salary fully guaranteed (signing bonus)
  • 2016 per game bonus: $62,500
  • 2016 workout bonus: $200,000
  • Pro Bowl bonus: $1.2M
  • $1M signing bonus
  • $1M roster bonus
  • $5.8M base salary
