Gordie Howe had only 22 fighting majors in his pro hockey career.

Tough as he was he mostly stuck to playing the game.

Just like the passing of Ali last week, this was not unexpected but one can't help but shed a tear at the loss of yet another of my childhood sports icons. I'm thankful that I had a chance to see these remarkable athletes in my lifetime. R.I.P. Gordie, throw a couple elbows up there to let em know your coming.

There seems to be quite the movement to rename the new arena in Detroit where the Wings will play to Gordie Howe Arena. It just makes too much sense, so it probably won't happen.

In this day and age, it probably would never happen. Arenas/stadiums are mostly named after the biggest corporate sponsor.

TS We've definitely chewed up some of the same ice, Gordie Howe Hockeyland was the first barn I played on a team. I met Gordie, Sid and Ted there. We started to like the 5am practices because on several occasions Ted and Gordie would be in the upstairs concession stand watching. All three of them signed my MAHA card in 66.
My number one sports hero is gone to the age, R.I.P Gordie, you will be missed.

We went to Windsor Arena before hitting SCS because it was cheaper, pile down there at like 3-4am. Times I saw Gordie was at Hockeyland, I couldn't even approach him. Wayyyyyy to nervous to do so. While I loved Kaline in my younger years, I woulda sniffed Gordie's JS if he offered. Yeah...I was totally in awe.
