Man, this is tough. I got the chance to see him speak one time post-playing days. RIP.

Gordie Howe would kick Muhammad Ali's ass.

AND get a goal and an assist.

I have his autograph twice. One is on a puck I got when he came to Baltimore with his son to play the WHA Baltimore Blades. I was three. My mom waited after the game specifically to meet him and get him to sign a puck. Somewhere that I haven't seen in years is a photo of me sitting on his shoulder. Marty is standing in the background of the picture laughing. I haven't seen the picture in forever.

The other one is an autographed jersey that hangs in my office at home. It was my wedding gift from Mrs 43.

This is tough.......I've thought about this day for years, he was my second sports hero after Al Kaline. Got to see him play for 8-9 yrs. before he retired, I became a hockey nut when I was 12 yrs. old. I also caught him twice at his hockeyland in St. Clair Shores.

RIP Gordie, and thanks for some of the finest sports memories of my life.

I can't believe this. Ever since I heard the news about 20 minutes ago I can't stop balling. I never had the good fortune of meeting or knowing the man personally, but this is hard.

RIP Mr. Hockey. Thank you for the memories. You will be missed.

In the 1950 playoffs against the Maple Leafs, Gordie suffered a fractured skull and had to have emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He recovered and went on to play for another 30 years. One of the toughest and greatest athletes in Canadian history.

One of my first memories of watching hockey was my dad seeing Gordie Howe on the screen and explaining to me how this guy got to play with his son and how awesome and amazing that was.

RIP Mr. Hockey.
