Yea, I've definitely seen shows where they are given a surprise ingredient(s) at the last minute that they have to incorporate. Just don't remember what the title of the show was.

Thought for sure this was going to be "which cooking show host would you most like to bang".

I don't follow.....

Why use inedible ingredients when we have a plethora of delicious and edible ones with limitless potential? Cooking is celebrating food, not survival.

It's a show testing someone's ability as a chef and their ability to improvise. Giving them inedible food is the best way to test that.

How so? Like I said, the chef who can make a tasty meal out of fish broth, peach pits and capers is clearly a world-class chef.

No, because this is cooking, not survival. It is like saying that an architect who builds a hut out of oyster shells and cow dung is a great architect.

I am not going to be baited into one of your arguments though, so carry on. Being a chef is about using the best ingredients in the best way to create the best food, not turning peach pits edible.

???

The basis of the show is who can make the best meal with surprise ingredients.

Also, if an architect can make a building out of lobster shells that passes coding and inspection, well that's a damn good architect right there.
