Who is your team's top prospect? Where will he play this season? What's his career potential? History? Just talk about your team's top prospect. Or two. Or twenty-five. I don't care.

Top Prospects as of right now are:

Logan Couture (C): Will be the 3rd Line Center to start off this season. At least he most likely will unless the Sharks sign a veteran 3rd Line Center. He is very responsible defensively and has probably a 50-60 point future ahead of him as a responsible 2nd/3rd line center. Played very well in the playoffs for the Sharks and hopefully will have a breakout season. Has large shoes to fill for Manny Malhotra.

Alex Stalock (G): Was a stud in the playoffs (and regular season for that matter) for the Woostah Sharks. Should probably receive one more year of seasoning down there before he makes the jump up to the NHL for the start of the 2011 season (if all goes as planned).

Flames:

Mikael Backlund (C) - Depending on the health of Daymond Langkow, he could be the 3rd line centre for the Flames this season. Has a boatload of talent and doesn't look out of place with the big boys.

Matt Pelech (D) - Nephew of Canucks GM Mike Gillis - Could be a 6th or 7th Dman for the Flames this season, big rangy guy with good wheels, we'll see if he gets a chance this year.

Eric Tangradi (LW): Will likely play for the Pens sooner or later this season, even if he doesn't make the club out of camp. He is the power-forward mold. He's big and plays well in front of the net. He looked very well playing beside Crosby in the preseason last year and his one game stint in the NHL. Has potential to become a 20+ goal scorer in the league.

Simon Despres (D): Was the Pens top pick in 2009, 30th overall. He will play in the QMJHL again this season, but could possibly get a brief look on the Pens at the start of the season ala Kris Letang in 2006. He has good size at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and is a good skater. Also has good vision. Should make for a solid defenseman in a couple years.

Mattias Tedenby- was the devils first pick in the 2008 draft, he's very generously listed at 5'9 and i have to beleive if he was even 2 inches bigger he'd have gone far higher than 26th. the kid as all the offensive skill in the world, unreal speed, amazing hands, drive, no fear, and a knack for highlight reel goals. he could be in new jersey as early as this year, whether kovy is there or not will probably play a part in that as it could mean a surplus in wingers if d men are traded to make cap space instead of a winger.

jacob josefson- devils top pick in 2009, excellent all around player, should greatly improve the devils center depth. even tho he is only 19 he has played with men in the SEL for 2 years now and put up 20 point this year. expect to see him in NJ this year as the 3rd line center, getting probably 12-14 minutes a game as i would also expect to see him on the pk....
he's been called the next henrik zetterberg

New York Islanders It's actuall a tough decision as to who's #1.

1.Travis Hamonic D 6-2 215 Drafted 53rd overall in 2008.
Played most of his junior hockey with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. He was traded to Brandon at the trade deadline. Hamonic is a physical in your face defender. He's got a really good first pass out of the zone & a good slapper but, in the NHL he will be primarily a shut down defensemn. With 8 defenseman signed to one way contracts Travis Hamonic will probably be playing for Bridgeport of the AHL this season.

2.Calvin De Haan D 6-0 180 Drafted 12th overall in 2009.
Plays for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. De Haan is an offensive minded defenseman who has tremendous hockey smarts according to scouts. Last year he suffered a torn labrum which required surgery & missed 6 months. The biggest thing De Haan needs to work on is his strength. Calvin will likely play one more season in Oshawa. However he has already signed his entry level deal.

3.Nino Niederreiter LW 6-2 205 Drafted 5th overall 2010
If Niederreiter had been born a week or so later he would be considered a locke to go #1 overall in the 2011 draft. He carried Switzerland on his back in the WJC. In 65 games he had 36 goals 24 assists 60 points in 65 games. Nino will get a long look at training camp but, will probably be back with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL next season. Which is probably best for his development as a future power foward.

4.Kirill Petrov 6-3 198 RW Drafted 73rd overall 2008.
The biggest question with Petrov isn't whether or not he can play in the NHL. It's his contract situation. He has another year to go on his deal in the KHL. Petrov was at Islanders prospect camp last month & received rave reviews from head coach Scott Gordon. If a deal can be worked out Petrov has the best chance of any Isles prospect to make the opening night roster.

5.Mikko Koskinen 6-5 187 Drafted 31st overall 2009
Koskinen is a late bloomer who was passed over in three drafts. He had a tough time in his 1st pro season in North America due to a hip injury which required surgery. He came back late in the year & played well. Shutting down Hershey in a playoff game. Koskinen will spend the season in Bridgeport spliting time with another very good goalie prospect Kevin Poulin.

canucks:

Cody Hodgson (F) - was CHL player of the year over John Tavares. Was tourney MVP for the IIHF U-18 tourney, should have been MVP for the WJHC. This kid has a mind for the game that is already at the elite level. A bad back (and later broken foot) has pretty much hobbled him for the past year and a half. He is apparently coming into camp healthy, and is pretty much pencilled into the 3rd line spot.

others:
Corey Schneider (G) - the goalie of the future, but not our future.

Jordan Schroeder (F) - was an absolute stud for the US WJHC. passed Doug Weight's record for most points in his IIHF WJ career. I think Schroeder had an extra year in which to do it though. Will probably spend the year in Manitoba, hopefully we see him on the roster next year.

IMO if Couture reaches his potential he'll be a 70-80 point per year player. That's still a couple years down the road though.

In other words....We are screwed !!

Edit: I should add the other prospect's have a hard time getting on the kiddie rides at the park because they do not make the height requirements.

Joacim Eriksson is easily the Flyers best prospect. And, wouldn't you know it, he's a goaltender! Of course, Philadelphia has been down this road before - Maxime Ouellet, for example.

Eriksson posted a 1.99 GAA (.930 save percentage) playing for Brynas in the SEL under-20 league. In fact, he was ranked as the number two goaltender behind Jacob Markstrom (the highly touted Florida prospect).

He's considered to be a game-changing goalie (so, he can make the timely spectacular save. Take note, Michael Leighton). Other than that, he possesses quick reflexes and is very sound positionally.

We'll see if he pans out - CROSSES FINGERS. With the Flyers staying dead quiet on the offseason goaltending front, they are crossing their fingers too.
