Oly,
I think traditional rivals such as Stanford and USC need to be in the same division even if overall USC and UCLA have beaten Stanford more often than not.

I mean you could try to make it similar regions but would have to make a few stretches.
NFC west Arizona State, Washington, Stanford and Missouri.
NFC east Texas, penn State, Virgina Tech, Louisville
NFC North Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan State
NFC South South Carolina, Florida, LSU, UGA
AFC West Oregon, USC, UCLA, Oklahoma State
AFC East Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Auburn
AFC North Ohio State, Tennessee, Louisville, Nebraska
AFC South Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Alabama, Baylor

Fair? any changes?

NFC west: Oregon, Washington, Oregon state, Washington state
AFC West: USC, UCLA, Stanford, Notre Dame
AFC South: Arizona State, Texas Tech, Baylor, Arizona
NFC South: Texas, A&M, OU, Ok State
AFC North: Michigan, Ohio State, MSU, Louisville
NFC North: Wisconsin, Va Tech, Nebraska, Penn State
AFC East: FSU, Miami, Clemson, South Carolina
NFC East: Bama, Auburn, Georgia, Tenn

I changed it a bit. Tried to get some rivalry games in divisions.

i actually think some of mine need to be rearranged just to break up the conference clusters. both wests have 3 pac schools. NFC North has 3 Big 10, AFC east has 3 ACC and NFC south is all SEC. give me some time and I am going to try to change them around and make them 1 more equal based on last seasons numbers and 2. less conference heavy.

balancing the records isnt hard. but getting it so no conference has more than 2 in a division at the same time makes it harder. unless i start over from scratch and throw keeping the regions similar to the NFL a thing.

Even if you move teams to balance the records its not like Florida is going to have that kind of record all the time

Trying to make geographic sense before balance since we can assume all the programs listed are at least decent.

NFC West: Stanford, Oregon, Washington, UCLA
AFC West: USC, ASU, Missouri, Texas Tech

NFC South: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M
AFC South: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor

NFC North: Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State
AFC North: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Louisville

NFC East: Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia
AFC East: Tennessee, Miami, Florida, Florida State

NFC South seems loaded, but most of those programs are above historic levels. LSU hasn't always been this strong. Auburn is just okay or slightly above average more often than it is great. Aggy is recruiting well, but they've still only won double digit games once in the last 15 years. Bama is Bama, but these teams have all been mediocre to shitty in recent memory, so I'm okay with it seeming a bit too good right now.

Relatively speaking, the NFC North sort of sucks, but Michigan and Nebraska are traditionally better than they have been and Wisconsin's been up long enough to make you think that they've permanently moved out the Big Ten rat league. 2 or 3 years is one thing, but they've been out of the cellar for about 2 decades now.

NFC West: Stanford, Oregon, Washington, UCLA
AFC West: USC, ASU, Baylor, Texas Tech- like this a bit better. At least one rivalry here

NFC South: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Missouri- nowhere else to throw Mizzu
AFC South: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, A&M- this is best division at preserving CFB

NFC North: Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State
AFC North: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Louisville

NFC East: Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson, Tenn
AFC East: Georgia, Miami, Florida, Florida State - needed to keep the cocktail party

Minor changes. I really hate what this does to USC though

I would switch Texas Tech with UCLA then it looks perfect.

That is tough, you are putting Texas team in the Pacific Northwest. That would destroy the prgram

What to do with the 5 teams on the actual west coast was the hardest part. Either you keep them all together and split one off with ASU and 2 of the the mid continent teams or you send a mid continent team all the way across.

If a change is needed, I'd probably swap Missouri and UCLA, because Misery is an outlier in any setup that tries to keep the Texas and Oklahoma teams together, unless you put them in a North division and shuffled Louisville somewhere, but that still isn't fixing the 5 teams on the west coast thing.

Tweak it around I guess. I think it's pretty close to ideal, accepting that there isn't going to be a clean solution with the 32 teams in the article.

Why? It would only be 3 games a year, at most two road games.

That would be a lot easier. Just combine the divisions in Codaxx's alteration and it works.
