I'm not talking about long term. I am saying solely as a backup I keep him until his contract is up without a very good offer.
hes playing past 40 garanteed. mallett will not see the field for a minimum of 4 years. hes gone you need to get over it. the way he is playing this preseason he has increased his trade value, deffinitly a 1st or high 2nd
Thats not a guarantee you can make. He could sustain a career ending injury next game.
More importantly to the backup QB discussion, he could miss 4-6 games with a moderate injury during the season but be ready to go for the playoffs, in which case a good backup could literally mean the difference between a super bowl run and missing the playoffs. Backup QBs are as important as starters at half the positions, even though you hope they never see the field.
