No, it won't necessarily be the top 8 teams.

1. P5 Conference Champs get in automatically.

2. Highest Ranked G5 team gets a spot.

3. No Conference gets more than 2 teams in.

So, the Committee gets 5 spots taken out of their hands.
They get to decide the 6th spot for the G5 team thru their rankings.
And the last 2 spots, they can do what they want.

Simple.

Tell me how it's all fucked up.

I've long been a proponent of the 8 teams with the advent of a playoff system in super-conferences of the P5 structured era.

Tired of hearing the wailing & gnashing of conference champ snubs. This fixes that 'dilemma' and still allows for three more debatable spots.

Win-win for eryone, IMO.

Top 8 teams or top six league champions plus two wildcards determined by point system.

Do away with polls completely if were gonna keep committees deciding who's the best.
There are 5 Power Conferences
There are 5 Non-Power Conferences
Conference Champions Only
Let the committee decide the teams rankings only for the playoff.
Boom, every conference champion gets a shot, even ucf if they make it.
Let the teams play for who is the best.
If you're an independent, get a fucking conference or you are left out.

*****side note, i particularly do not want an 8 or 10 team bracket. I personally would prefer a 6 team bracket, all conference champions get in with 1 at large, whether it be a G5 team or another team from another P5 conference or independent, doesn't matter to me.

P5 champs
Any remaining unbeatens
Any remaining at large using a BCS type of formula

Seeding would use the same formula for selecting at large.

You will never get any coach, AD, etc..to agree to have any form of playoff system that has “byes” in it.

If it’s not set up on equal footing, it’ll never fly.

All playoff participants have equal number of games.

That’s why a 6 team playoff will NEVER work.

No one wants to play an extra game, while the higher seed gets extra practice and time to prepare for their opponent.

Leave the committee. Top 8. I fail to see how being a P5 conference champion should automatically qualify you. Had Northwestern pulled off an upset in last year's Big 10 game, you'd have a five loss team in the playoff.

So, you like the "Invitational Side" of it more than the "Playoff Side".

I think a lot of people do, but it's not a playoff in any real sense of the word.

only the top 8 defenses can play, so we all know at years end who had the best D.

toss the Oregon Ducks out, one of the worse PAC defenses around...

You really are a moron, you know?

Oregon's Conference Rankings for Defensive Categories:
Total Defense: 2nd
Scoring Defense: 2nd
Turnovers Gained: 1st
Passing Yards Allowed: 2nd
Rushing Yards Allowed: 2nd

I don’t see how anyone can question that 8 is the number, damn the criteria.

Last season under this format:
(1)Alabama (13-0)* vs (8)Washington (10-3)*
(4)Oklahoma (12-1)* vs (5)Georgia (11-2)

(2)Clemson (13-0)* vs (7)UCF (12-0)
(3)Notre Dame (12-0) vs (6)Ohio St (12-1)*

I'm cool with 2 of the 3. I'd like to see the G5 with their own 8-team playoff.

(1)UCF (12-0)* vs (8)No Illinois (8-5)*
(4)Army (10-2) vs (5)Cincinnati (10-2)

(2)Fresno St (11-2)* vs (7)App St (10-2)*
(3)Boise St (10-3) vs (6)UAB (10-3)*

* conference champion

Just winning a conference championship game (which is nothing more than an money grab anyway) should not be an automatic criteria.

Without committee input you're going to see more garbage gamesmanship with scheduling. Teams will surround their most difficult games with glorified scrimmages just to get into that game, and hell, if they blow it, then they can still claim an at large seat at the table.
