Yeah it got kind of preachy after season 3 but when Winchester replaced Burns after season 5 it was kind of better. Linville's character had got old and tiresome. The episode with Col Flagg and Winchester was hilarious. Radar became more innocent as the show progressed, which I thought was absurd.
And it didn't have Col. Flagg...he really needed to be in the final episode.
I don't even really remember the content, just how big of a deal it seemed to be.
It was 3 hours long, about one hour too much. The scene with the fire about the middle part actually did happen but wasn't planned or a part of the script. They did work it into the show though.
That ep was banned from syndication, wasn't it?
Cheers has some of the best jokes of any sitcom, imo. Its probably in my top 10 shows of all time.
In the first season of Law and Order, they had a less sanctimonious prosecutor. The show quite frankly doesn't work without Sam Waterson being so 'out there' with his opinion. The entire premise of the show is to debate the issues...the verdicts are usually minor by comparison. Waterson does step into some areas that would seem crazy nowadays, though. People said some REALLY liberal things on TV back then.
And I can understand why some people might not like Cheers. It has a bunch of semi-unlikable characters and if you aren't a fan of the jokes and you don't like the direction that everything moves in then it can seem like a waste of time. Sitcoms are like that for me. They either work or they don't with no middle ground.
