It wasn't even CLOSE to a clipping.
There is no debate here.
This is retarded.

1. Defender out of position and facing away from Rodgers.
2. Defender turning.
3. Defender blocked within the shoulder pad.
The third picture here seems to show a definite block in the back. The runner is still a good 4-5 yards further back than the defender, and the defender is facing the ball carrier, and while I doubt the guy could have tackled Rodgers, it looks like a flag should have been thrown.
You can see the front of that OU players jersey in that picture though. How can it be a block in the back. Side at the most and it's inside the shoulder pad.
Also you can't turn at the last milli-second in order to get blocked in the back.
He turned at the last second because Rodgers cut back at the last second. Or at least that's the way it looked to me. I was rooting for Nebraska in this game, and obviously nothing I say is going to reverse the outcome, but looking at this video, it appears (to me) that a flag should have been thrown.
Even though you can clearly see the second number on the front of that defenders jersey (as if he's falling sideways), he's being blocked in the back?
I think this one is beyond the statute of limitations. Under section 4.2 in the bylaws of The SportsHoopla it clearly state one can not bitch about a play that occurred prior to the birth of 85% of SportsHoopla posters. If one does the thread should be shut down and the offending party shall be referred to as a whiney bitch for the next 12 months
Just to clarify, are you talking about the pictures in post#2? I don't think that the white you see is part of the jersey number.
I second the motion.
At :14 he was clearly behind the guy (no shoulder involved and pushed him by about a foot or two). At :10 he clearly pushes the guy down from behind. I can only go by what is called in today's realm of rules and I think both would and could clearly be flagged.
43 years later and Looner fans are still crying over 2 legal blocks. GO BIG RED!
Correct me if I am wrong but....
over the years, the rules have changed so that what may have been a legal block in 1971 became an illegal block in 1991.
So, even if it may have been an illegal block today....
if it was a legal block om that particular day, then it was a legal block in that particular game.
I am pretty sure that block would probably be flagged today, because that's how the game is called today.
But you must take into context when the game was played and what the rules were then. Not what the rules are now.
The guy @ :10 turns his back around at the last second because the runner cut back to the other side. You'll never get called for a flag like that.
That one today could go either way, but I think most of the time it would get a flag regardless of the cut.
