Day 1 of Justin Bourque's trial was today. Not exactly shocking that the defendant had some pretty disturbing stuff to say in his video statement that became public today.

Justin Bourque statement to RCMP shows no remorse for killings - New Brunswick - CBC News

His lawyer is pretty well known around here for being incompetent and shady. Interesting that Bourque had to find someone an hour outside of Moncton in my direction. He doesn't even specialize in criminal law. Last case I heard him being involved in (fucking up) was a family law case. The fact his name rhymes with (Lionel) Hutz has led to many jokes.

His statements show someone completely out of touch with reality. Total psychopath in the literal sense of the word.

That troubles me. Because this:

Bourque, who says at one point he "feels like s--t" and hasn't slept in two days, rambles at times early in the interview. He talks about caged human beings, the rule of tyrants, living behind the black curtain, the suicide rate in Moncton, unfairness in society, self-righteous rich people, hook-in-mouth syndrome and a lack of personal freedom in Canada.

Sounds like a whole lot of people I know who fancy themselves "Patriots". I mean like scary close to the shit they spew 24 / 7.

There is a lot of poisonous thinking out there, we just have to hope and pray that not many actually act on it like this twit.

I really wish I could feel confident about that.

Yeah, he was sentenced today. Even 75 yrs. is not enough for what he did.

Agreed, but you rarely see this kind of harshness when it comes to handing down sentences in Canada.

Not sure where to post this, but I am shaking because I came the closest I've ever been to a shooting tonight. Working late and walked to near Verizon Center to get some food.

Walk past some kids fighting and hollaring. Stopped for a moment to make sure nobody was being bullied (fucking 15-17 year olds I'd guess). Thought about getting involved, thought better of it. Good choice.

Walk to the end of the block and all of a sudden somebody is unloading a full clip. Definitely heard a bullet go by me since I was only about 50 feet from the intersection. They definitely shot some poor kid.

Myself and others on the street ducked behind stuff (luckily a concrete barrier was nearby). No idea if the bullet that went by me was 3 feet away or 30 feet away. But too close either way.

Morale of the story - never work late.

Good thing you decided not to get involved.

Sorry to hear that happened to you, man. Glad to hear you're alright. Politics aside, I think one thing we can all agree on is that these shitheads unloading clips at people deserve the worst hand that the law can deal them. A gun is a tool, not a fucking toy.

Honestly thought they might have been play fighting at first, but couldn't tell.

Awfully young to be walking around with a gun.

You thought they were 15-17? Yeah, really young. What a waste of life. And no regard for other lives either.

Just a good thing you stayed out of it, or you could have been a victim.
