I think Bobrovsky is fine. He still looks confident in goal. The defense has been directly responsible for a few of the pucks that got past him. Of course, he'd love to have a couple back - but he's a 22 year old kid living in the US for the first time. He's trying to learn the language and the North American game. Four starts is a little early to pass judgement.

Just wanted to comment on that. I know it's a little different since it's the start of the year as opposed to playoff time, but for Varlamov, the fact that he didn't know English helped him. The fact that he wasn't able to understand what they were saying prevented him from getting rattled by the pressure he was under. I know it's a very different situation, but that can actually help.

Bob already stated that he is having a hard time communicating with his defensemen (understandably). Apparently it hasn't been a huge strain, but something they are trying to get used to. To each his own, I guess.

Sergei Makarov's career started to decline after he won the Calder.

Sergei Makarov's career began a slow decline after he won the Calder.

In fairness, I think he was 31 years old when he won the Calder (which forced the league to change the eligibility criteria for Calder consideration)

Haha yeah he was 31, which is why I thought I'd mention it. I guess that was poor non-use of a smiley by me in that last post. :D

I forget who it was that ended up being robbed as a result but yeah it's what prompted the change. I think the max age now is 26. Kind of strange that he was eligible after dominating in Russia for years, but a teenage Gretzky was not because of his season in the WHA.

How about Joe Juneau 102 points as a rookie 85 second year then never higher than 64 the rest of his career.

He was also bolstered by playing with Neely and Oates though, and he kind of transformed as a player. When he was in Washington, he became a defensive fiend and a stalwart killing penalties and playing the puck control game.

Roman Čechmánek?

anyone remember when the Flyers were playing the Roman the Bipolar Goalar (as Mooger once called him) took his mask off and had a drink of water while the Flyers were leaving their zone DURING PLAY...... wow that guy was nuts.
