Malcolm Butler relies on his high motor to over achieve. If the motor is half on he isn't over achieving and he needs to over achieve to be better than his replacement. He's got to face that his strength comes with risks and BB (or anyone else) want a discount to accept that risk. He never wanted to face the facts that as a restricted free agent he had less value than an unrestricted free agent.

Best thing for Malcolm: just play the best ball you can and the rewards will show. He just might be the victim of his agent telling him what he deserves.

I definitely agree. He's relatively short and can be taken advantage of in that way but his intensity and focus have worked well for him.

Belichick is probably reminding him of that fact.

He did deserve a better deal and got a "nice" bump this year but if he wants the big bucks he needs to show his skills again this year.

I don't agree that he deserved better....yet. The collective bargaining agreement has a lot to do with how players are valued and any "discount" he's playing at now is a function of the agreement. Malcolm only deserves better when compared with a few who have waited, then did better.

Didn't he get a franchise tag for 3 million. That's something. Whether he deserved the "big" bucks is another story.

He was tendered as a 1st round restricted free agent which means the Pats traded cash (the 3+ mill) for the right to recieve a 1st round pick in return from a team who signed him. That option lowered his value on the open market but is part of the collective bargaining agreement. No other team thought he was worth some sum above the $3mill plus a 1st round pick.

Maybe Butler has been talking his contract in thevlocker room? You know that pisses BB off, then you combine that with him underachieving. He could be gone for a bag of socks. BB don't play that game and would rather move on from it then waiting for a good deal.
Malcolm if you enjoy winning and getting paid you'd better get back on Bill's good side with the quickness.

This is BB's way of lighting a fire under his ass, sort of like what he did to J.Sher....Not sure we have to depth to move MB, esp if Rowe is going to have a lingering injury. The one to watch for a trade is Allan Branch. He is not happy, 8 snaps last week and with VV coming back, he might just be inactive at some point.

Branch missed a good chunk of camp, he probably needs a little more time to round into form. Hopefully he'll be good to go down the stretch.

As for MB, I really think it was just as simple as the matchup...Coleman is huge, Rowe has much more length. MB played every snap against the Chiefs, and I would expect will play every snap or darn close to it this week, too.

Anyone else thinking/hoping Solder misses a game or two?

No. Certainly not against what will probably be the best pass-rushing team they'll face all year. He's not perfect, but he's still better than Waddle or Fleming.

Wishing Garcia was not on IR....I think he might have won the job. Nate is this team's best LT at this point. Rather have him than Waddle.

Yeah, it sucks to see. Guys has been through so much (his cancer, his son's cancer) and he looks like he lost a step.

Creep, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Garcia is on short term IR and is eligible to be activated after week 6.

He was flat out terrible. Guy has lost it and not having Cannon meant both OT needed help. 3rd and 1 and Solder can't hold his block for 3 seconds and his guy trips up Gills....ugh!
