With the Blazers smacking the Nuggets, looks like the play-in games are all set.

Wiz vs Celtics
Hornets vs Pacers

Warriors vs Lakers
Spurs vs Grizz

My guess is Wizards and Lakers end up as the 7 seed while Pacers and Warriors end up as the 8 seeds

Sounds right, although I could see the Hornets beating the Pacers and Celtics instead

I already did not like the play in tournament, but seeding it 7v8 and 9v10 is just stupid. Why guarantee a playoff spot to the 9 or 10 seed? It is a disadvantage to finish in 8th over 9th or 10th. This is like referring every round and having the highest seeds play each other.

Stupid autocorrect: reseeding not referring

There is no guarantee for 9 or 10. They have to win two games to get into the traditional playoff while the 7 or 8 seed gets two chances to win one game.

What are the odds of 5-6-7-8 winning in the West?
This year? Considering that the Lakers will likely be the 7th or 8th seed and healthy, odds are probably pretty good.

But most years....not very good.

You completely misunderstand the format. 8th has 2 shots to win one game to be in the playoffs. 9th has to win 2 in a row

I think the Lakers would beat the Suns. This will be the first time the Suns will have made the playoffs forever- as long as Davis and LeBron are healthy and can survive the scheduling and travel. LeBron cant take games off in the playoffs like he has been doing and the schedule is fairly compacted.

I think I would favor the Jazz- but certainly not by a large margin.

Ah, I see. I misunderstood the format. Still doesn't help me like the play in. They may as well invite everyone and make it June Madness since 2/3 of the league is in the post season.

I love the play in and see no downside at all

If it were a league whhere there was a history of lower seeds making some noise, it would be one thing. But it seems like a futile exercise that is just a money grab for the NBA. 16 was already more than enough teams to make the post season, 20 teams in a 30 team league is nuts.

I think it's the opposite. If the 7 or 8 seed ever had any chance it would be unfair to make them play in. But since they don't, who cares which of the 7-10 seeds make it? It's just more fun and doesn't affect the outcome.

The playoffs are the real NBA season anyway, the more the merrier! Also, everything is a money grab, they ain't running a charity
