Pirates Keep Meek (at least for the time being)

The Pirates DFA'd Meek earlier this month. Several sources reported today that Meek passed through waivers unclaimed and had been outrighted to Indianapolis.

I'm a bit surprised that Meek went unclaimed. Must mean that he's fallen a LONG way during the past couple of seasons and no one else sees him as worth a shot. According to several sources, he has never regained his former velocity..... probably a big part of his demise.

Seems doubtful that the Bucs will make him any kind of offer for next season.

If no other team takes a flier on him they might give him a Spring Training invite.

Meek has filed for free agency, along with Slaten and Sutton. Seems unlikely now that any of the three will wind up back with the Bucs..... but it's still possible. (Scroll down in the article linked below.)

At the bottom, the article also lists Pirate farmhands who made Baseball America's recently released top prospect lists.

Mags the only notable omission from those lists would be McPherson. He did't have enough innings at any level to make any of the lists. Looking at the International League I would think he would have been top 5 with enough innings. There is also Josh Bell, who's injury may actual been a saving grace since he looked so bad against change-ups. Had he accumulated enough AB's I am not sure he would have made the top 20.
