Shaq in usual manner attacked Pippen and reminded him that he(Pippen) was never a Michael Jordan. Not to be out done in putting him down, Pippen responded with words of truth and wisdom with the following response:

"It's a pity you're not as good with your free throws as you are with talking smack"

Seriously - can you imagine how good Shaq would have been and what his legacy would have been if he had been an 85% free throw shooter? I think he would have won another championship or two.

Heck, he didn't even need to get to 85%. 75% is considered very good for a big. If he could have done that, he might have at least 1 more title and the "Hack-a-Shaq" would never have happened.

Wilt Chamberlain was not a very good free throw shooter.

They both sucked at it. :D

No doubt. Wilt might have gotten his old Philadelphia Warriors team past the Celtics a time or 2 if he could hit free throws.

Funny story. When Wilt was playing for the Lakers and Connie Hawkins was on the Suns, apparently Hawkins worked with Wilt on his free throws before a Lakers/Suns game. Wilt proceeded to go something like 8 for 10 on free throws that game.

Suns fans were not happy with The Hawk even though he was a huge fan favorite.

Wilt may not have been stellar in the free throw shooting dept but nobody banged more women. That should count for something.

I can guarantee you that if Shaq had come back and stated he was now shooting 75% of his free throws for the rest of his career and proved it - we would have had at least one more parade

How much greater would Shaq have been all time had he been good at shooting free throws?

Seriously. Kareem shot 72% on free throws for his career which is decent, but not great, for a big. Imagine if Shaq had just gotten to 72% like Kareem.

Shaq's free throws were never a huge issue for the Lakers. When the game was on the line and teams performed the Hack-a-Shaq, they'd go small ball and let Kobe run the floor.

I found this argument very entertaining.

Shaq said he was " The Bridge" and Pippen was the "Water"...meaning, a level lower when it comes to all-time greats.

Shaq's reasoning being: Jordan was the Alpha....always.

He has a point.

I would say Shaq was the Alpha when he rings. But, Wade was the man in Miami.

Forget free throw shooting because that's to easy.

I think if Shaq would have been more serious about taking care of his body, he would have had another ring or two.

Next to Magic, he is the only Laker that I truly loved.

I agree about him needing to take better care of his body. Funny thing is, that was always Kobe's biggest beef with him and what caused much of the friction between them.

Years later, Shaq admitted that he should have listened to Kobe.

And then he couldn't figure out why the late Dr Jerry Buss chose to resign Kobe and trade him

On that 30-for-30 @ Shaq & Dale Brown - they both claimed that Shaq would have shot much better if he adopted the underhand technique (ala Rick Barry) & plans were made to switch Shaq to that technique starting in college. However - Shaq resisted it since he claimed it was too girly like & didn't look good. Too funny.

I despise Scottie Pippen but am really starting to feel bad for the guy. What's next? He was a more dominant center than Shaq? This guy MUST be on drugs. :L
