At pick 21 you are looking at 3 third best dt third best cb ,2nd to third best qb 2 to third best Ot 2 nd best ilb 3rd best pass rusher 2 nd best rb , Best Center, 2nd Best Wr So based off value + Need kelly would be the most logic pick The 2nd best wr is doctson the 2nd Best Rb will be left on the board so i think doctson has more value then the alabama back at 21 So kelly or Wr doctson Will Be The Pick

Absolutely. Look at the 2011 draft - 5 defensive lineman selected in the first round went on to become pro bowlers (more if you want to include some that were converted to LB). Compare that to some of the others in that first round at other positions who went on to basically become average or worse. Redskins have lots of needs so their top pick could be one of any number of players.

Coach is falling into a trap many do. The 3rd best player at a position will very with every draft. This happens to be a very strong draft for DL so the 3rd best DT this year could very well be the best in next year's draft.

As for SM I do agree with Dad that he will take the BPA approach but will also consider need. We will always disagree on Scherff, he felt he was the best player at 5 and I am convinced had he been drafting for the Dallas Cowboys it would have been a different player. But I am firmly convinced he will not reach to fill a need. And as much as we discussed Scherff I never considering him a huge reach, a spot or 2 is not a real reach.

Kiper has Kelly ranked as his #18 overall prospect. So I believe if Kelly is there at #21 he would fill a need and should be the BPA on the board unless something drastic happens like Hargraves being there at #21. My point was that this DL class is so deep that we could be getting a first round talent in the 2nd round with a DL. So why take one in the first when you get gets guys like Clark and Johnson in the 2nd meanwhile landing the best center.

I just believe that here is a huge talent gap between the #1 and #2 center vs the whole DL class.

I think this make a lot of sense if it's true. The draft is all about value and if you can get close to similar value a round later while filling another need in the 1st I can see it. As much as I have been screaming for a center I would still prefer Billings. But I won't be upset with either player.

No those were huge reaches by a guy who could not evaluate talent and was Hell bent on finding a big receiver regardless. Big difference. As I said I'm fine with whoever he picks but I sure would prefer a center, DL or safety before WR or any other position. But again if the BPA is a WR then I won't argue.

I'd draft a DT or DE in the first for this reason. We aren't ready to truly compete yet. Even last year SM said we're a few years away from having a solid roster. I'd be happy going DT in both first and second. Our d-line isn't young nor solid, build it up with talented bulk/muscle that can get a year or two under their belt and will be ready to dominate in a year or two when we are even closer to being legit.
