Hit or miss, walks are down, but so are k's, replacement level starter at this point. Would guess he is the first guy to replace (trade or callup) when the rotation gets completely healthy down the stretch.

Looked like we were getting bad Volquez for sure at first. Got out of the jam though.

couldn't find the zone first inning and did well the second.
having a lead maybe made a difference in his mindset and aggressiveness.

mercer is on fire as is cutch.
mercer might end up being a 2,5, or 6 hitter for us.

What magic allowed Volquez to go seven today? He looked awful, control wise, for most of the game, but I guess the Phillies are just not very good offensively.

when liriano comes back we send locke down as he has options and i don't think worley does.
all things being equal and locke and worley both have options, we make sure liriano has a 3 rehab starts to make sure he can get people out and the ball over the plate, then when he does, send worley down.

Sure, wouldn't be against him taking the Gomez role in the BP.

we need to keep them stretched out if we can in case someone goes down.
the long relief role is too inconsistent as far as routine and getting on the mound regularly and the max is about 4-5 innings.

would rather worley and locke go down with cumpton so they can get regular work, get better, be confident, and be ready to start when liriano goes down or shows he doesn't have it this year, or an injury to someone occurs.
locke has options, but not sure worley does.

i like mazzaro over gomez if they can trade gomez and bring up mazzaro for the pen.

I get the allocation of resources argument, but I have no faith in Worley is actually better than a sixth starter. While I do have faith that Locke has more than he had in the past with the new changeup he is flashing, and is going to be a much better pitcher than Worley for the rest of the season.

Element I have to respectfully disagree with you. I really like what Worley has done and he has pitched well since he got here. I truly believe Volquez is much like Locke from last season. I waited last year for him to implode and I feel the same way about Volquez now. I also like him better than Cumpton. Worley has looked really good so far and I believe he is one of our best 5starters
