From ESPN:

10. Relocation is coming... to the AHL

Mike Russo of the Star Tribune reported that there’s a massive relocation coming to the AHL so that NHL teams don’t have affiliates on the other side of the continent. That would be a big change for West Coast teams, who can’t just have an AHL player hop in the car and join the team like some in the East can do.

“We started working on that a couple years ago,” said a Western Conference GM on Sunday. “It’s getting close. I don’t know if it’s going to happen next year or in the next couple years but it makes sense.”

Rewatching Sanheim's draft video I never picked up McKenzie comparing him to Johansen in terms of a raw, late riser. I'm a bit late, but that is quite encouraging

Flyers hired Rick Pracey as a scout today. Last job was director of scouting for the avs. Not a lot of info out there but..
The Mysterious Case of Rick Pracey - Mile High Hockey

He was at the helm for the orielly, mackinnon, landeskog, barrie, and Duchene draft picks.. Those were good.

Can't really complain about adding scouts. Hopefully just increases our chances of finding a diamond in the rough

He and the Avs must not have had an amicable parting of ways - wonder what happened there

Besides the gems in ROR and Tyson Barrie, there wasn't really any other picks that have done well - Joey Hishon was a legitimate reach at where he was picked at the time

They only have 6-7 homegrown players on that team and half of them were consensus picks at their draft positions at the time of the draft

Maybe I'm making too big of a deal about it but the Avs haven't done a good job of drafting guys later in rounds that could be solid 2nd-3rd-4th liners and d-men too

heh, better than the Flyers. what do they have, Giroux, Couturier, and Rinaldo are the only Flyers draft picks pulling down ice time. Read I guess you could call home grown, but he was the prize undrafted free agent that year.

And Scott Laughton so that makes it four

But think of it this way: Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, who were homegrown, allowed them to get Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn so really the Flyers have done a pretty solid job in that department in recent years

ah forgot about laughton. good point.

and good point on Richards/Carter. And I really don't think the Flyers are bad at drafting, I actually think they're quite good, they just don't do it enough (trades). But I think adding another proven mind to the scouting pool is a good move.

If they kept more of their picks they would be a whole lot better

There were a few horrendous drafts but I thought this past draft was really good - they have at least 3-4 guys that can be contributors to their team going forward

It is still early, but our 2012 and 2014 mid round drafts look very good. I didn't really follow prospects a few years back like I do know but I don't recall ever having so much potential from guys after the 1st round. Stolarz, Ghost, Leier, NAK, Lindblom, and Fazleev all seem to have reasonable NHL potential. No more Goulbourne/Mathers-esque picks.

agreed. I think the flyers should get at least a couple NHL players out of that group. Ghost and Leier both look like great role player type guys. Ghost with the potential to be a great offensive dman, and I think Leier has got 3rd line shutdown guy that can contribute written all over him.
