This team has just played uninspired all season so far. I'd blame it on the lockout, but most other teams came out firing the second the lockout lifted.

Sincere request of opinion from Flyers fans...I know it's early to be judging such things, but JvR trade...how are you feeling? I honestly thought it was a silly one to begin with, but I know you guys were in desperate need of D.

I still think its been a dead even trade. I really like how Luke has played this season. He has been a monster in the hitting department. He does make a few mistakes from time to time, but hey thats acceptable on our d corps.

JvR was given a chance to excel here and he never did. Glad he seems to be making the most of his minutes in Toronto.

If it wasn't for the brotherly connection, I would have said no to the trade I think. The Schenns have been upped their games this season IMO.

I can see that, thanks. I can't really give a valid opinion having only watched the team twice for the full game. All I know is JvR burns the Pens like none other.

I don't like the JVR for Schenn trade. The Flyers needed an offensive minded defenseman. Schenn is a stay at home guy.

A loss to the Isles tomorrow could spell DOOM for Lavy though.

I can tell you that I was one of the few Flyers fans on this entire forum that wanted to keep JvR at virtually all costs. Most of us were more than willing to package him in a trade. I stood by my opinion that he was going to be a stud and was due for a breakout season this year.

That's the kind of guy you don't trade away, even to unite the Schenn brothers. Don't get me wrong, I love the physical playing style of Luke Schenn, but he just doesn't appear to have the ceiling of a JvR. It certainly looks like a bad trade for the Flyers right now while JvR has 8 goals in 15 games and nobody in Philly has more than 6. If JvR becomes a 40 goal scorer someday, that's pretty much a bad trade no matter how you slice it.

I'm with Tox. We traded away eight goals in fifteen games in JvR in return for eight goals prevented in fifteen games a la Schenn who keeps Lilja buried in the minors. He's been our best Dman, and that's important too.

This trade wouldn't seem so bad if guys like Giroux were actually putting up the points they're supposed to. Now I haven't watched a ton of games so maybe he's playing well and just not putting up the numbers, but if he gets back to elite level then losing JVR's production doesn't seem as bad.

You got your heads handed to you on that trade. Schenn is a very good stay at home D man. JVR is a future all star stud. If you like that trade I'm sure Lou would give you A-Train for Claude....

I think you're getting ahead of yourself.Let him string a few seasons together before we call him "all star".

JVR very well might be a future hall of famer, but he wasn't going to be a hall of famer in Philly. Sometimes guys need a change of scenery, and I'm glad we got what we could for him. If he ends up turning into Wayne Gretzsky the second (and he won't), then yeah, I'll wish we'd been able to tap that potential here, but he wasn't that great when he was with us. Sometimes both teams win trades; so far I'd say it's good for both sides. Better for the Leafs, maybe, but anything that keeps Lilja off the ice is a win for us.

I'd also point out he is shooting WELL over his average right now (15% compared to 10%) and that stat tends to regress to the mean. Take that into account and his 9-4-13 line in 17 drops to 6-4-10. Certainly not bad, but not SUPERSTAR material, either. If he maintains similar points per game through this year and next, then I'll give him all due credit. Until then, well, I've seen him go hot in Philly before, and I've seen him go cold. We'll see if he can keep it up.

Word is Jack Capuano could be out as Isles coach if the team doesn't go on a winning streak. Apparently Cappy was shaking hands with everyone he could last night. He was relieved the team came back & beat Montreal. So Lavy isn't the only head coach on the hot seat.
