Only so many times Snider can cover for Holmgren's failures

Firing Laviolette is one thing but filling that void with an assistant that's hardly been contacted about 15 offseason coaching vacancies since the 106pt 2011 campaign and "helping" him with a rookie asst and a crusty retread that hasn't had bench success in a decade doesn't seem like a good idea.

While I could find plenty of fault with Laviolette, it's tough to pin too much blame on him given the questinable decision for the replacements on the way.
Did they at least make some scouting or other front office hires recently (besides Hextall) that could fill in behind the bench?

Did Holmgren give Berube 4 years and a NMC yet?

This isn't even fun-bad.

Well well well... the Flyers are officially a Camden dumpster fire. Laviolette fired???

Best coach they've had in decades, out the door.

Somehow
Paul Holmgren gets his 1975th (see what I did there?) pass on
assembling a stable full of nags, mules, and jackasses and telling his
coach to win the Kentucky Derby with them. He had ALL SUMMER to make
this move, dumb or not, while some great coaches got hired all around
the NHL.. and he waits until NOW?? THREE GAMES IN??? Homer was a JOKE of
a coach and he's an even WORSE GM....

....All the bad
contracts, trades, and the dandelion bouquet of goalies he's amassed
over seven years... and Homer stays.. Stanley Cup credentialed coach
goes.

THEN at the presser, Mr. Snider (see what I did there?) had the stones to actually get indignant and jacked up because he was asked about some of the same points I just brought up... What a joke.

Well,
Lavie was too classy for the organization, clearly... how do you fix
that? Well, lets promote a former goon to head coach. Craig Berube??? Uh
huh... nothing like getting a guy with a history of punching officials and
making racial slurs to take the reins. Have to wonder how Wade Simmonds
feels about that??

Get ready, all of you Flyer fans pining for
the 'good old days'... you are going to get PIMS out the ass... but
not any hardware.

I HATE the Flyers and Flyer fans HATE the
Pens... but If I WAS on the other side of the fence, every blog, radio
show, and social media outlet would be getting serious hate towards that
front office.

Hey, pass me that popcorn.

I posted this elsewhere, but because I'm an unmotivated unoriginal hack, I pasted it here too. :lame:

I'd like it as a Flyers fan too. Change is needed, and a coach is the easiest move. It's worked for teams in the past, so it's easy to hope for that. As an outside observer, I put the blame on Holmgren...and he's the one who did the firing. Coaches have an expiration date. Most at least. And it's very, very likely that this was Lavy's time. As noted, it's stupid timing considering the offseason just passed, but doesn't mean it wasn't the right move. I just can't look at the body of Holmgren's moves and not criticize him. He took risks, and they nearly paid off. His Richards/Carter trades looked pretty good, but his attempts to build a team around Giroux have been...questionable.

Not even joking around here, I think homer has done a good job and I think the team he currently has assembled is a good one. Obviously time will tell here, but I think the team's talent level was not reflected due to lavy's coaching.

The only move I really don't like of Homer's was Bryzgalov - He couldn't get the job done in Phoenix when it really counted, so why he thought that flake could get the job done in a pressure cooker environment in Philly remains a head-scratcher to me.

I know it's probably not warranted, but I'm going to pick my favorite Craig Berube moment as a player and post it here.

Highlights include Berube starting it all, Kevin Sawyer cross checking Vernon well after the whistle, Iginla going southpaw, Disco Dan with a pretty good scrap, Jiggy losing it and and more. My personal favorite is the Flames captain Dave Lowry taking a deliberate delay of game penalty once Berube's time had expired just to get him back on the ice.

I personally blame Holmgren more than Laviolette, but it's easier to replace 1 coach than the whole team, so I guess this move is understandable. At the end of the day, Laviolette lost his team.

If that happens, Lavy being axed is even more stupid

What? Firing Holmgren does/would not change the "system" the Lavy was using.

The Flyers being 0-3 is 100% on coaching, regardless of if you're Homer's biggest fan or worst enemy.

what if they have a .600 or .650 record at that time?

Well he'll stay in the case. I just don't think Berube will change much of what Laviolette already had going.

Except for lack of a real starting goalie and a solid D you are right

Well goaltending (Minus the hideous 1st goal last night) and defense haven't been the issue. It has been the lack of any change to Lavy's system, which for some reason Lavy would refuse to adapt. So until Paul Holmgren is the guy behind the bench, refusing the budge his "system" for three years, it isn't Homer's fault.

With the goaltending & D the flyers have it really doesn't matter who the coach is, and that IS homers fault

Craig Berube...really????

Well, considering that goaltending and defense aren't the problem, you're wrong.
