@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Ed Snider gets testy when asked about his team's culture and hiring from within. Interesting question, though.
He wasn't terrible for those 3 years. I mean, I can't really say much about the fans wanting him gone, because I now I wanted Bylsma gone in a very reactionary way. I just think that if they were planning on firing him a few games into this season, they should've done it in the offseason. Why not give a new coach a camp to get things going? Also: the brunt of the blame has to be with Holmgren. He didn't really give Lavy much to work with.
Lavy has failed the same way for 3 (This being the 4th) years now. Embarrassing lack of adjustment to his system against the Bruins in 2011 and Devils and 2012, as well as blowing the 2013 season was clearly his downfall.
Trust me, I don't know why we didn't fire him in May. And while it may be homer's time to go, he certainly did give Lavy all the obtainable pieces to work with.

I'll disagree with the last sentence. I'm not sure he was given great pieces to work with. 2011 and 2012 he did, last year notsomuch. This year Holmgrens past decisions caught up to him financially. Obviously it's a tough job being a GM because you have to take risks and hope they pay off, he just hasn't recovered from those mistakes.
Craig Berube?
Oh, that will end well. How soon until they play the Avs. Two hotheaded rookie coaches?
You're saying Laviolette had the pieces to work with in 2012, but not now? I guess you put a lot of stock in Briere, Jagr, JvR and Carle whom were a combined -16 in our last playoff run. Those are virtually the only skaters we've lost over the last 18 months and that team was good enough to oust yours in six games of the first round.
Either way, being that it was a short season last year, Laviolette got a mulligan, but when you add in the preseason and first few games this year, it's very clear that we're going the wrong direction. This team looks completely inept right now yet fully healthy and we know from past performances that they can perform at a much higher level. That wreaks of the coach having lost control.

'cept maybe A GOALIE
I don't understand firing a coach at 0-3. If you were going to make that move, why not do it in the offseason? Makes no sense. I personally like Laviolette. And he has taken the Flyers beyond the first round of the playoffs in 3 of the last 4 years. How many coaches can say that? Maybe 3?
Philly sports are in some kind of death spiral right now.
Good call. We may see fisticuffs.
Just curious, how many other goons have made it all the way to the ranks of NHL head coach?
Berube
Hunter
was Jack McIlhargey ever a head coach?
tough trivia
How about Terry O'Reilly (of course I don't know if a guy who pots 200 goals in his career should be considered a goon. That's quite a feat).
You can't tell me the defense as it stands now is "having pieces". I'm not denying that a change may have been necessary, but (as it is often when coaches go) I think he's being saddled with too much of the blame. Lavy will have a job soon enough...
