Game Thread: Penguins GDT's/GNT's wk 3 (Oct 20-Oct 26)

Week 1: Offense was spectacular, defense (especially PK) not so much.

Week 2: Offense came down to earth, defense and PK rebounded nicely.

Week 3: we got,

Oct 22nd - Philadelphia Flyers: forget their record, they always play their best games against us, will be a huge psychological test to see if we're better now than we were the past few years.

Oct 23rd - @Detroit Red Wings: they've been getting good play from guys like Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, & Howard. They might even get Datsyuk back when they play us.

Oct 25th - @Nashville Predators: good defense, good goaltending, might even have an improved offense under Laviolette. Really looking forward to the James Neal vs Patric Hornqvist matchup.

Should good be a good test for the Pens on both a psychological and physical level. 3-0 would be nice, but I see us going 2-1.

Flyers game will be interesting, giving up over 4 goals per game so far, and their defense is terrible.

The powerplay will be a big test for the Pens Pk.

You guys happen to see the ESPN Power Rankings that came out today? They are so bad they are comical with some teams. Pens dropped like 7 spots for losing to Dallas. I like reading the comments and seeing how pissed people get over something so meaningless.

Doob's take: Flyers are struggling out the gate, but that doesn't matter because this is the "Battle of Pennsylvania", as far as I'm concerned both teams are 0-0-0. Flyers have been struggling on defense so it's a good chance for our offense to flourish. Flyers have struggled to finish their games and are playing their 2nd game in 2 nights, so that plays to our advantage. I expect a closely contested game, but the Pens to prevail 4-3.

Strange game so far, hopefully MJ has a plan on how to attack the Flyers through the neutral zone going forward.

Also, Martin and Ehroff are having trouble as a pair, neither game is sure where the other one is at. And I still don't like Malkin at the point on the pp.

No reason Pens shouldn't have the upper hand of the play in the third, Flyers coming off a game last night. Pens been off for 3 days.

Malkin Sutter Dupuis line is a disaster, bad coverage by Maata and Dupuis.

Bad turnover by Despres, but that second line needs to go away. I'd rather see Craig Adams out there the rest of the night than anyone on that second line, seriously.
