Also, "sources", ie message board posters with history of getting previous weird diagnosis right, are saying that Maata might need another shoulder surgery and could be done for the year. Take that for what it's worth.

It won't Maata, he wasn't all that impressive the second half last year or the beginning of this year. I know he's young and we all want to believe, but he truly is just an average d man with possible upside.
I disagree, Scouty. Both Bylsma, and now Johnston have been confident enough in him to play Maatta top four minutes. He's tied for second among defensemen on the team with nine points, and prior to his diagnosis with cancer, Olli was probably the best d-man they had in the lineup for a little stretch.
And mind you, this is a kid who is barely 20 years old, and never played a lick of minor league hockey in N. America above CHL level. That doesn't happen very often, especially among defensive prospects. Scouts gush over his talent every time his name is brought up. I think he's going to be a pretty special player in the NHL.
I'll say this, his ceiling is probably higher than any under 24 year old player on the team at any level.
The Pens look really sharp. Their passes are hard and crisp. Playing with some speed, too.
Despres looks great.
No Sid, that's why.
