Hell yes, Browns. If they can get him under contract this could be a huge acquisition for us.

Browns acquired LB Jamie Collins from the Patriots for a compensatory third-round pick.

The Pats seemed to solve their contract logjam by sending Chandler Jones to the Cardinals over the offseason, but they have now offloaded perhaps their best player for a late third-round pick. It is a stunning move which certainly has much more backstory than we know about right now. Collins should play inside linebacker for the Browns and is a massive upgrade over Demario Davis and Chris Kirksey. As long as the Browns are able to get him under contract, this should end up being a great trade for Cleveland. New England now has to lock up Dont'a Hightower to a long-term deal.

guess he was in BBs doghouse:suds:

Thomas heading to NE? There has to be MUCH more to this trade. That or there are other teams involved and information hasn't leaked/been released yet. I'm not a fan unless I see something mind boggling come from this. Love HT but letting Collins go

But why would Cleveland want a rental at 0-8? Maybe just the Browns being the Browns.

Wouldn't the Pats get a compensatory pick anyway if he signed elsewhere at the end of the season?

This makes no sense unless he's being disruptive.

I don't understand this at all. I thought the whole point of shipping off Chandler Jones was so they could have money for Collins. Instead, they ship off Collins for a third round pick, which is probably what they would have gotten as a compensatory pick had they lost him in free agency anyway.

Either Collins did something awful that we just haven't heard about yet, or Bill Belichick decided to make the worst trade he could think of to see if he would still be labeled a genius.

No worse punishment than sending a guy to the Browns. Wonder what he did to Belichick to deserve this.

Contractual issues being cited by Ian Rapport on NFLN as to why Collins was traded.

IR basically said Collins and the team couldn't come to an agreement far as a long term deal and the team didn't wanna pony up the 15 mill to franchise him. From Collins side, he's supposedly cool with going to Cleveland if they don't want him in NE.

I'm honestly just baffled by this. There has to be more to the story, either more compensation for the Patriots, or Collins did something that we haven't heard about yet. That's the only thing I can think of.

If it's simply a matter that they didn't think they could re-sign him in the offseason, then I do think this was a terrible trade.
