The Patriots announced several changes to their coaching staff on Friday, including the promotion of Bill Belichick’s son, Steve, and the return of Dante Scarnecchia.

Steve Belichick has been a coaching assistant on the Patriots for the last four years and was promoted to safeties coach on Friday. The 28-year-old, who turns 29 this month, is certainly following in his father’s footsteps.

Bill Belichick was also 28 when he was promoted to linebackers coach on the New York Giants.(The Providence Journal talked with Bill Belichick about his son and his coaching future last season. You can read that story here.)

Scarnecchia returns after two years of retirement. He returns as the Patriots offensive line coach, a position he held from 2000-to-2013. He replaces Dave DeGugliomo after the Patriots did not pick up the option in his contract. The

Patriots also elevated Brian Flores from safeties coach to linebackers coach. He famously told Malcolm Butler to get on the field before his game-securing interception in Super Bowl XLIX. He replaces Patrick Graham, who is now with the New York Giants.

The team also promoted Jerry Schuplinski from coaching assistant to assistant quarterbacks coach. He joined the staff in 2013.

Moses Cabrera was elevated to head strength and conditioning coach. He replaces Harold Nash, who is now in Detroit. James Hardy takes his former position as assistant strength and conditioning coach.
