Cali,

Thanks for posting that entire Jackson interview. Definitely sounds like the media took one part of it & showed it out of context. When you read it in its entirety it doesn't sound bad at all.
Felt the same way once I read it :suds:

Awful news for Dion Lewis. Out for the season with an ACL.

K, I'm changing my mind on Djax's comments. With context, I get it

Excerpt

While Jackson didn’t hang around to speak with many reporters in the locker room after the game, NBC 4’s Jason Pugh managed to talk to him. Jackson calmly answered Pugh’s questions, but his frustration after the loss was apparent.

“It felt good,” Jackson said when asked how it felt to be back on the field. “Unfortunately, [we lost]. We played a great team, had a lot of mistakes out there. It was good to get back in the flow of things and getting back my timing and speed, things like that, so, you know, it felt good.”
Pugh then mentioned the drops that plagued the Redskins’ receivers on Sunday and asked Jackson if he could explain them.

“I’m not the one making the drops, I can’t really speak for that,” Jackson said. “As professional athletes, we get paid a lot of money to go out there and perfect the job. That’s what we need to do. So, if we need to correct something in practice and do something better, that’s what we need to do as professionals.”

Finally, Pugh asked Jackson if he thinks that there’s enough time left in the season for him to contribute.

“With the opportunities I get, I think I’ll be able to do a good job with that,” Jackson said. “I can’t call the plays for me, I can’t throw the ball to myself, so when the coaches and the quarterback call my number, I’ll be there and doing what I need to do.”

unfortuneately it's all too easy to fall for the sound bite without context given some of DJax's previous comments and behavior. Shame on me for falling for that.

Looks Like Someone Has a Sixpack of the Mondays

Excerpt.

2. I think what made me most upset about the way the game unfolded early was that breaks did go our way. When you play a team as good as the Patriots, you have to play pretty close to perfect and hope you get a few bounces that go your way. After a successful onside kick, the Patriots fumbled it to the Redskins. One play later, the Patriots had the ball back thanks to a Pierre Garcon tip drill. Down two touchdowns, the Redskins were forced to punt, but got the ball back via the rare Tom Bradyinterception. At least we didn't punt or cough up the ball, but we did turn it over on downs. You can argue that many teams in the same situation would have left Massachusetts with the same story to tell, but that is no consolation to Redskins fans today. In addition to the unforced errors out of pretty much all of our skill players on offense, we also looked lost on defense. Out-of-position linebackers (taking terrible angles) opened up huge lanes for the Patriots, which was made even more infuriating by the act that their offensive line was put together with string and scotch tape. The scoreboard said 17-3 at halftime, but it felt MUCH worse.

3. One more comment about yesterday's game: I thought Kirk Cousinscame ready to play. He looked sharp out of the gates and was the victim of butterfingers all over the field. It would have been nice to see him be rewarded for what seemed to be good preparation, but SEVEN early drops kept him from building momentum. The best part about Kirk's performance to me is that we aren't (or shouldn't be) spending a lot of energy this week calling for him to be benched. Baby steps...

4. So we're 3-5...feels worse than that, doesn't it? But it isn't! The Giantsescaped the Buccaneers with a win, moving them farther out in front of us, but their next opponent is New England! The Eagles evened their record to 4-4 by scraping past Dallas in overtime, and sit a game ahead of us, but they have been extremely uneven this season. In short, this campaign is far from over. I think we can all look back and recall when 3-5 likely meant that the playoffs were out of reach. That is not the case this season. Now, if the Giants pull out a win against the Patriots, we might be having a different conversation next week, but if they are 5-5 going into their bye week, all bets are off.

We do still lack talent. We are still suffering from the RG3 trade but we are improving. I know some of you do not see it but we are.

We gave up 27 points yesterday...did anybody think we would give up that few and force 2 turnovers? Didn't think so. That means the defense outperformed expectations yesterday...I predicted NE would score 52 so they did twice as well as expected.

Offensively, it is really hard to base anything on yesterday. 7 or 8 drops depending on who you ask. I believe that was as many as we had all season. We left some very big plays on the field...the INT would have gone for at least 20, possibly more. The Carrier drop was at least 50. Drops in general are drive killers and you can't do that against NE.

Oh, and did you see NE steal a possession from us? That is what teams need to do to beat NE...not the other way around.

Ultimately, I think we are an improving team that needs to remain disciplined and learn to adjust to adversity. Fill your gap, direct your man, seal the edge. Be fundamentally sound and catch the damn ball.

Agree gk, it's not going to happen overnight. This team has been mismanaged for a long time so getting it fixed is going to take some patience but I like some things we have seen.

Don't personally place a lot of weight on the way PFF grades but it does provide some insight to see their assessments. The 3 skins are Sherff, Keenan and Goldson btw.

Some keen insights from Mike Jones

Excerpt

The one area where you would like to see Cousins do a better job is identifying mismatches and deviating from the original play call. This is something that takes time. Obviously, Tom Brady is miles ahead of Cousins, but he’s a good example of what Cousins aspires to be in this area. Brady comes to the line, spots mismatches, changes plays and capitalizes. The best example was on the 18-yard touchdown pass to third-string running back Brandon Bolden. Brady walked to the line with a spread formation and didn’t see anything he liked. So, he calmly called timeout, strolled back to the sideline and came back with the same spread formation, except this time, with Bolden split out wide. Brady now knew that Washington would put a linebacker on the running back, and that linebacker, Perry Riley Jr., had already struggled in pass coverage.

Right now, Cousins is at the point where he may spot some things in the defense at times, but many times, he admits he’s so consumed with executing the play just right, that he isn’t as confident in his recognition and judgment, which causes him to ignore the fact that he has the green light to go off script. It’s becoming evident that Cousins can be a serviceable starting quarterback in this league. But his ability to defeat and manipulate opponents with his mind is what will make the difference between serviceable and stellar.

3. Problems at inside linebacker – The Redskins’ defense is designed for the inside linebackers to serve as the leading tacklers. Right now, Keenan Robinson and Riley are not delivering. Way too many missed tackles between the two of them. Robinson had a nice play with the interception, and he finished with seven total tackles. But he whiffed here and there Sunday in situations where he needed to have met running backs in the hole. Robinson is in a contract year. If he wants to return here, he’s going to have to start executing with greater consistency.
