Honestly, the stage just seemed too big for most of our players yesterday. Perhaps it was big stage jitters and mind tripping themselves. Fundamental things were forgotten /missed in addition to the same troubles we've been seeing in our running game and run defense. Then add in the absurd drops.

It was a great disappointment after seeing them claw their way back to a victory in the Bucs game. Didn't expect a win but didn't expect them to regress so far in terms of tackling, drops and discipline in the basics.

As Jay said, maddening.

Some would say that holding the Patriots under 30 points is a positive takeaway. But in reality, the Patriots did exactly what they came to do: run the football and play fundamentally sound football. That’s all teams have to do when facing the Washington Redskins. Nothing speaks to that point more than this stat: the Redskins are one of three teams (Vikings and Broncos) that have not allowed a 300 yard passer this season. Unlike Minnesota and Denver, that stat doesn’t speak to quality defensive play. Teams now realize that you don’t need outstanding QB play to beat the Redskins — you can beat them by running the football.

There’s several reasons to the Redskins struggles on run defense, including overall poor play by their linebackers. However, a lot of it has to do with scheme and you would think Washington would figure that out by now. Especially coming off a bye week. This shoot-the-gap system is asking the outside linebackers to crash inside — leaving the back end open. Not to mention, Washington has inside linebackers who are both struggling to find and fill their gaps. Teams see that on film and are exploiting the Redskins because of it. Those teams could possibly thank former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who may have implemented the blueprint on how to run vs Washington. Every since that Week Five game against the Falcons, Washington hasn’t been able to stop the run. It’s a major issue. This team appears more concerned about limiting the pass game than run game. That’s the complete opposite of what both GM Scot McCloughan and HC Jay Gruden described as “Redskins football” prior to the season.

Some good news on the injury front. Looks like Goldson with a hammy is the only addition to the walking wounded in our secondary.

Think we've probably seen enough of Riley as the starter

There have been injuries on the Oline that can explain some of this. Hard to dismiss lack of cohesion in a unit that requires play together to achieve consistency. But Callahan and crew have got to find a way to fix this run game. No one entered this season thinking the recipe to winning games was Capt Kirk and the O throwing 40 times a game.

You got it. BTW - can someone please tell me what in the hell Murphy has been doing in the last month? I almost forgot that he was on the team.

He defended ONE pass well but you don't see him often. I am concerned with K Robinson. Not seeing Kerrigan as often either. I think some of it is by design. I know he is banged up and I know it is a new defense. He just doesn't seem like the same guy and maybe one or both of those reasons I just mentioned are why. We know Riley needs to be replaced.

Seems to me our D caught people by surprise early but it has been figured out since. Lots of zone, dropping backers, little blitzing. We were trying to keep everything in front of us and rally up to tackle.

Cali most of the time we have big stage jitters. We are what we are, unable to take it to the next level, some consistency. Is it coaching or we just don't have the talent. DC said a couple of weeks they were working on stopping the run LOL. Yes indeed the tackling has been horrible all season. Can you image if our Skins were playing on the level of the Raiders or the Vikings. Remember these were horrible teams not long ago. We would be sitting on top in our division bc teams in our division are not all that good. However as of right now we still have a shot at winning the division, can you believe that. But you can count on us doing what we do best and that's keep regressing and being inconsistent as hell.

Think Manny makes a good point regarding scheme being a lot of the issue. Missed tackles by all and gap discipline not helping either.

I think because Keenan is playing injured and it's affecting his efficiency and development.

We can only wait and see. How this team responds down the stretch will show us a lot.

Same old Skins or something a bit different. We are at the half way point. We've seen how that often plays out.

I'm still quietly encouraged and somewhat optimistic. To me, there are some noticeable differences... the team appears mentally tougher - we've seen some claw backs this year so far. We've seen some encouraging signs from some of our rookies and some fight through a ridiculous amount of injuries. Is it enough to feel like we've turned the corner in terms of a culture change? I think it's enough to not feel completely pessimistic...at least at this point in the season

Well this just highlights how well the Pats are coached and execute their jobs. We all know this already.

The Pats and BB are one of the best at getting a win, even when faced with depleting injuries.

Lmao. Think Jay learned after making the wind comment. Probably played a part but no one cares and they shouldn't.

Well Cali hope your optimism proves me wrong. I would be jumping for joy down here in Big D.

So again - why are they paying Barry? If indeed Shanahan figured out a way to exploit the Skins defense than why couldn't Barry counteract that? That was a month ago. A good coach can make adjustments within the game & certainly should be able to do it in a month! A good coach would simplify things & devise a defense that takes advantage of the players' strengths.

IMO Barry is certainly on the hot seat. I don't want to hear this crap about keeping him around strictly for continuity. Don't make the same mistake as with Haslett. If the guy is no good then he deserves to be canned whether he has been with the team 1 year or 5 years. He & his defense have 8 games to redeem themselves. I don't want to see any more of these interviews where Redskins players admit that they were no good & need to play better - just freaking do it already.
