Well looks like the Braves are in full on rebuilding mode. I just hope we are contenders by time our new stadium opens in 2017.

I just have a hard time seeing the Padres as a threat in the West.

they are making the right moves, but at this point it's still playing catch up with SFO and LAD. Should be a fun team to watch with plenty of firepower.

That is exactly how I see it. Sure, they are going to field a solid team that should finish a few games over 500, but it's going to take top caliber players to dethrone the Giants & Dodgers.

I like what the Padres are doing, but is it enough?

Also, they have just moved the Dodgers OF problem south a hundred miles. They now have Kemp, Upton, Myers, Smith and Maybin in their OF. Will they keep everyone around since Kemp and Myers are relative question marks, or do they try to deal Smith?

Feel like the Braves fleeced the Padres (even if only one year). Mallex I think could be good in the MLB, but the rest are garbage.

Mallex looks good. Peterson is only 2 years removed from HS, so you really can't look at his numbers and judge.

Nice haul by the Braves.

Wow. Padres pitching has been pretty damn good and now they should be able to score some runs.

Looks like Gattis will be in LF for the Braves now. (maybe)

Going after Middlebrooks now?

Padres, Red Sox Nearing Deal To Swap Hanigan, Middlebrooks ? MLB Trade Rumors

They are coming out of nowhere and making a bunch of noise. Could become a serious threat.

WMB's still young and could still turn into a decent player, but moving to Petco won't do him any favors. His development's also been stinted by injuries. Sox get a damn good backup catcher in Hanigan, especially if he hits like he did in 2009-12 (97 OPS+ (above average for a catcher) and .370 OBP). He's had a ridiculously low BABIP the last two years, I think the average will climb back up. Not to mention he still draws plenty of walks.

Wanted the Sox to get Hanigan for years. Even if he doesn't hit much, the Sox have two good defenders/framers in Hanigan and Vazquez.

Gee, the Padres are having a busy off-season. Got to think they may contend for a NL wild card spot next year.

I am not sure I classify them as a "serious threat", but defiantly like what they have done.

The prob is, it looks they are basically emptying out their farm system. Not sure that is a sustainable strategy for a small market org.

Their pitching alone makes them a serious threat. But I'm not sold on Wil Meyers, Justin Upton or Matt Kemp.

Adding Upton, Kemp, Myers, Norris and Middlebrooks? Damn this new GM is not messing around. Anyone that doesn't think of them as a serious threat should do so at their own risk.

I made this post thinking it was JUST Mallex and Peterson heading over. I had no idea Fried and Jace Peterson were going as well.

Padres got fleeced.
