tosu got Garret wilson from Austin, but he is originally from columbus and his brother/uncle still live there. However if Texas had even been decent, they most likely would have gotten his commitment. They also have the top OG prospect in Donovan Jackson..his momma is a buckeye and still carries a buckeye in her purse. He was trending Texas last fall, till the ou game, from that moment he was all tosu. His dad is trying to get his son to listen to Texas again (distance) but til Texas can put an OL rd 1 and win the conference, it's not gonna happen.

You won't get every kid, but like you said you need to get the majority of them. Texas is full of transplants but there is a certain pride.. Texas needs to win to finally get these kids to stay.. and they will, it's trending the right way since Herman started.

I know I'll upset some Oregon fans here, but if SC wasn't in a slump like this, would any of the kids that have gone there from CA to AZ be there now if SC was winning double digit wins for the past couple of seasons? Tosu has cherrypicked Texas since the 2016 class.. and it's been easy since Texas has just had it's worse decade performance ever.. However, once Texas gets back to also getting double digit wins (it's coming) it's going to make a lot more difficult for tosu to cherry pick the way it has been.

Getting elite players out of California hit new heights with DAT...that was about a decade ago.

No offense but I rather spend 4 years in LA than in Eugene

You have to be a fan of a Texas or USC of Ohio State type school to understand this. Yes, some have left but your goal is to always keep the Reggie Bush the Jr. Seau the Matt Lienart amd Carson Palmers here. Troy Polamalu was and Oregon High School player and if he was coming outta HS now you're damn sure Oregon would be all in trying to keep him close to home.
maybe its mind set too.
I dont think of Portland as local to Eugene. I dont think of Spokane as local to UW. If a kid from Laredo, Texas chose to go play Ole miss over Texas i wouldnt think they missed on a Local kid because its 3.5 hours away.

yeah and how well did oregon play in those days? Again it takes disaster seasons from SC and UCLA for Oregon to "be on the rise"
oregon was on the verge of Heisman winner and National championship spot in 2007 before a slew of injuries caused a 5th string QB to finish the season.
1 losing season in the time he was there.
ranked in 5 of his 9 seasons. including 4 top 15 finishes. and 5 top 10 finishes in the 5 years after he left meaning the last class (redshirts) when he left. Oregon was setting up.

oh..so so close .. part of being a real contender is depth..Bama lost a lot last season but still competed. Again, if SC continues to falter, Oregon will be the big beneficiary unless Stanford or UCLA turn it around. But if SC gets back to winning double digit seasons, it's going to make Oregon work that much harder to get some kids. I view TCU in an Oregon type of mode tbh..but Oregon has a higher ceiling since they are a bigger school and have Phil Knight as it's main booster.

LOL. USC got Troy Polamalu out of Oregon during the Pete days which is more than Oregon has gotten out of Cali durring that time and since if you combined them all . Haloti Nata was about the best you got and he isn't close to the player Troy was. So one player USC got out of Oregon>all the players Oregon got outta So Cal. I would take that every day and twice on Sunday.
