Harder to go back to older posts when you have to dig up other threads. Easier to do a thread search when it is all in that thread.

Mods used to lock them. And it wasn't unusual for them to go a few past 10k as it was. It was kind of one of the weirder hammer policies. One that is thankfully long since dead.

There was a reason behind it, but it escapes me at this moment

As I posted, it was said to put more pressure on server resources. It was meant to help stave off some of the issues we used to have. Everyone from that era remembers times when the site got massively slowed down or not available for stretches. 10k was meant to help reduce it. I doubt it did, but that was his request so we abided by it.

I know Ghost had to lock up my original I’m bored thread over on the NHL board because the old server couldn’t handle threads over 10K. That one got to over 16.5K before we had to lock it.

We all asked shaggy about it when he took over and he doesn't have any type of cap. It's up to everyone's discretion.

Ah right, I remember that now

I'm guessing by now we have servers capable of handling it

Good ole times though, I remember the original I'm bored thread LOL thought it would forever be the longest thread ever

Or what WizardHawk said.:)
Wasn't around for ghost, but we asked hammer a few times about it and that's what he wanted. He eventually went to a high end server farm with several mirrors that could easily handle it, but by then he just wanted things his way because it was his way.

When shaggy came I looked into it and found many sites with similar setups with threads well over 100k in posts. Things have changed a lot since the original hoop back in what? '09? Yeah, lots of advances.

Hell, every time someone bumps a thread from just 5 years ago I'm always like 'oh yeah, what happened to him?'. Kind of never realize people aren't here anymore until a solid old time bump.

How about the Pac 12 North thread until someone in the South outside of USC wins the conference.
Mamba going back to his old ways. Trying to divide everyone now by making one of the Pac trolls make a new thread. He knows it will split everyone up.

I was around for Hammer at the start, but lack of time and an old school flip phone limited my time until I took about a 3 year break. When I got back, Shaggy had bought the Hoop.
