question re: Utah. Why is their recruiting ranking so low despite recent success, especially this year? I don't follow their recruiting enough to know if they rely a lot on JUCOs or mission players, but it seems odd. I don't think they've ever been a recruiting monster so that makes their success even that much more impressive.

If they had a string of success like Oregon did from 2009-2014 they'd probably start getting top 15 classes.

Not that Eugene is a premier destination, but Nike helps. I don’t see enough of the elite level recruit types to have SLC as a serious option for consistency in bringing in top classes. Which makes what their coach is doing that much more special.

The only legitimate recruiting destinations are Los Angeles x2 with Tempe and Seattle following.

Combination of the above. Returning missionaries, occasional JUCOS, transfer portal pick ups leads to smaller classes. But no, we have never even approached being a recruiting monster. We have great talent evaluators, a stable coaching situation. If we offer a kid, often as not they pick up other offers...

They aren't too far removed from being a mid-major and when they were a mid-major, they were always solid, but they never were a team that made a lot of noise (like Boise or more recently UCF).

Utah isn't exactly a "destination" for most 18-22 year olds, let alone 18-22 year elite athletes with dreams of the NFL. So they get a lot of 3 star type kids and do a great job of coaching them up.

As micheljordanfan pointed out, if they continue to win, they'll start getting higher rated recruits. Especially if USC doesn't get there shit figured out.

Utah is one of those schools that kids stay for their entire career. Like Trojan fan says they don't usually have recruits who come in as sure thing NFL prospects. I think USC has had only two QB since Carson Palmer in 2001 to stay for their senior year and every year the best WRs and usually about 3 to 4 of their top athletes have left to the NFL as juniors.
Utah coaches obviously have a talent for finding kids with good upside knowing they have time to coach them up. What you get is every once in a while you have a team with lots of experience at critical spots that can play with almost anyone. I checked the recent depth chart and Utah has 15 SR and JR starters including a senior QB. in comparison USC has 6 Sr and JR starters right now including a secondary without a single upper classman.

Oregon played for the National Championship after 2010 and 2014 seasons. even that didnt really help recruiting until after the coaching change.
I'm not sure even with sustained success will Utah get elite recruits year in and year out.
avg recruiting ranking last 5 years of MWC 56
avg first 4 in Pac 47
last 5 avg 38
current 2020 ranking 107 even with recruits seeing this run.

I just noticed that Utah has not beaten a top 25 team this year. They played one in USC and got beat. Just wow.

not sure this is the right place to post... and tbh i'm a few glasses ahead of a 'hit return' option

but reading the n.d. propaganda v the game in palo alto this sat is disgusting.

admittedly we're crap this year, but 'unworthy of a game' is a bit much considering we've owned their ass for the last decade. likely we'll go down big saturday... (it'll rain cats n' dogs) and we have no running game or running defense), but i'm hoping against hope we'll gut it out

f' the 'golden domers' for their new found elitism....

UWs QB comes back next season? Isnt he a projected 1st or 2nd rounder?
I don't think he helped his stock much this year, but he could still grade out high just because of size and arm strength. No one really knows.

I'd put it at least 60% he goes
