Had to reply because of your avatar...... But like you, I would take anything I hear on a talk sports radio show with a huge grain of salt. Utah's Starting QB was Gatoraide player of the year for FL, the starting RB his team mate and the qb's favorite receiver were team mates. They were called the Halladale trio. This is their senior year. We'll see...Sounds like these southern kids are brainwashed.
As I've said, I worked with the WR coach for Mt Si. I know what his abilities were all throughout his high school years. He's a good kid, but just average in abilities. Not exactly fair though dude. Cale didn’t get an offer from any real school because he hadn’t developed. He is still growing into a frame. Him not getting an offer from UW didn’t have to do with talent, it’s that he looked like Kevin Durant instead of a football player.
You are both dumb, but why should that shock anyone.Yet UScrub won both games vs an easy win vs a LOSS!!!! He didn't miss the point at all.
Typical pencil neck weak excuse would expect nothing lessYou are both dumb, but why should that shock anyone.
If the question is toughest stadium to play in, he's not going to pick the one he got a 70-21 win in. Pull your fucking head out of your collective asses. Their loss had zero to do with the stadium or crowd as it was. They missed the 20y FG that would have won the game. Bring in even a semi-shitty kicker and it's a W. So easy as fuck win and loss that wasn't on anyone other than the staff for not having a legit college kicker... or two tougher games against Utah. It's not tough math sport. Stop being a blind ass homer for once.
So you believe the gap between a close game they lost is bigger with the close game they won on a miracle punt return for touchdown, than the gap between 70-21 and their other win in Utah.Typical pencil neck weak excuse would expect nothing less

What killed him for UW though is his dad badgering the holy fuck out of the UW staff. For years. Like the second Petersen came on staff. It entirely poisoned them.
His younger brother Clay though could (COULD) be legit. Has better hands and solid footwork and looks like he makes better decisions. Long way to go though. He's in the '21 class. I know Oregon offered him, but he'd be well served to wait to verbal until well through his senior season. He may have a lot more options than his brother.
Wouldn't be surprised if they took him just to get an edge on Clay. Cale is a bench warmer. Then I misunderstood your post so my bad. I just know a few guys who ended up at UW where they were the exact opposite of Cale in terms of they peaked much earlier and became duds.

No. Cale is a 3 star recruit and that's being generous. I'm telling you I'll be shocked if he ever starts. You don’t really hear that much anymore from UW or Wazzu about recruiting one guy just to get another one down the road. I’m pretty sure though Cale commited to NW then Oregon before he became a “legit” recruit. Either way, Clay isn’t near the prospect of little Millen though is he?

Clay doesn't have stars yet, but he should be 4 star range. Potential is there.
And then there is Sam Huard that makes the millen boys look stupid.
Sounds about right. I don't hate the kid, but his dad wrecked his chances to stay home as a deep bench kind of kid and going to Oregon wasn't going to give him a real opportunity to start games. Knowing his dad he has a false sense of potential. There's no doubt he has a bit of an edge with the level of things his dad has taught him, but his skill set just isn't there. I know the ducks have offered his brother and he will likely be a solid get if he accepts. His dad sort of advises/coaches for Mt Si and is very involved in his development. Both a good and bad thing at the same time.Herbert another year. then Shough who will be a redshirt freshman this season. cale will be 3rd at best this year. In theory Shough starts 20, 21, 22. Cale might get 1 season at starter in 23 if he improves otherwise some QB between now and then will come in and get ahead of him and he will transfer to Eastern Washington or Portland State.

i was happy with what I read in the article. I really hope they give Sears a serious look. To me, JT Daniels was overhyped. Not saying he is a horrible QB, but teams last year were able to make quick adjustments to our offensive game plan and basically shut our offense down for the remainder of the game. I like Sears' athleticism and arm strength, it will be interesting to see how the QB competition plays out.So, looks like Clay Helton is looking to finally have some discipline with the team.
According to an article I read this morning, if a kid makes a mistake during practice or drills that would result in a penalty or turnover...he is immediately pulling the kid out and having him do "up/downs" and receive individual instruction to help them understand that there are consequences during games for those kinds of things.
If it was a mistake that would not result in a penalty or turnover, the kid is still pulled out for individual instruction re: the mistake.
He said "Just being able to let them know that we are setting a standard and that standard is the only thing we will accept. Anything less, I'll address with you immediately. As soon as a yellow flag is thrown, that player is out and he will suffer the repercussions of what it means to make a mistake whether it's pre-snap, post snap or in-between".
He is also apparently going to finally trust his coordinators and is stepping away from installing offensive schemes and game planning.
He has asked both coordinators to simplify their schemes saying "We created simple, effective schemes to allow our kids to play faster. I want us to focus more on the fundamentals and techniques of the game because I think we're as talented as anybody that we'll play next year. As you saw today, a lot more emphasis was on our individual drills, almost 45 minutes of individual drills before we got into our team work".
It's only been a day, but the players seem to be buying in. Safety Talanoa Hufanga said: "When he pulls guys out for making a mistake, that's something we're not used to. If a guy made a mistake last year, we'd just leave him in and keep going. But for him to take guys out and punish them, it's going to help us make smarter choices day in and day out".
He also hired Aaron Ausmus as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. He was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach during the Pete Carroll era.
He's also bringing back weekly competition and going with the guys who are playing the best every Saturday instead of starting the same guys no matter how they play (also from the Pete Carroll era).
I think I can speak for all Trojans when I say..."It's about fucking time. You should have been doing this from Day 1. Now it has to continue and show on the field".

Yeah, I agree that all positions should be open competition, including QB. This team went 5-7. That's on both the players and coaches. As we saw in the off-season, that made it so that none of the coaches jobs were safe. The same should hold true for the players.
I wouldn't mind Sears getting a real shot. I like JT. But it felt like he came in sort of "pre-ordained" and Sears never really got a fair shot. Hopefully, Harrell sticks to his word that it's an open competition so that whoever becomes the starter will have truly earned it.
In fairness to JT. Much of the problem was the coaching staff not making adjustments once the opposing defense adjusted. As a true freshman, it's kind of hard to expect JT to be able to change plays at the line of scrimmage to try to adjust himself. Especially behind an offensive line that couldn't block anybody and when they actually did, still had trouble completing a drive without committing a drive killing penalty.
Because he was such a tremendous athlete, Darnold was able to cover a lot of that by just making something happen when the play and/or line broke down. JT isn't athletic enough for that.
I agree. While I think they gave the job to JT because of the hype he had coming in the problem was not him. The O line was horrible and Tee was even worse with his play calling. Sears would have looked a little better but only because he would have covered up some of those things like Darnold did. I was at ganes where no one helped JT. In the Texas game the O line was horrible and the WRs dropped passes and once they blew that call for the saftey it went downhill from there. At the Notre dame game if the WRs dont fumble the ball USC could have been up by a lot at the half and the game could have been won.
Agree. I understood what they were doing with JT initially. They were purposely keeping the playbook smaller and kind of "vanilla" to allow him to adjust to the faster pace of a D-1 football game.
I also get that the o-line not being very good was part of that as well. But once it became obvious that teams were doing a good job of adjusting to what the offense was doing and shutting it down, they should have started opening up the playbook. If nothing else, it may have helped the o-line simply from the fact that it added plays that the defense wasn't expecting.
Even after they made Drevno the o-line coach and there was noticeable improvement in that units performance, they didn't open up the playbook.
And yeah, I don't know how many dropped passes they had last year, but I'll bet it was a lot. Definitely a lot more than there should have been given the talent level at that position.
I felt like there were several winnable games that we didn't get just because of not making adjustments and/or things like stupid penalties, turnovers and just plain ol' dropped passes.
That's why I was glad to see the article that talked about the changes that Helton has made to how practices will be conducted and that there will be greater accountability.
Should have been happening from day 1. But better late than never, I suppose.
