Yes, but will it make a difference in the end?
Sounds to me, like the bell could have been struck too late IYO. No?
Depends on if the coaches stick to it and the players continue to buy in. As long as both of those things happen, they should be fine.
The problem hasn't been talent and it won't be this year. The problem has been a lack of discipline and not developing players (which discipline helps with).
Sometimes, when a coach makes changes like that, players can have a tough time buying in. So far, that doesn't see to be the case. But it's only spring. We'll see what happens during the summer.
At least it looks like Helton was smart enough to figure out that the status quo wasn't going to work anymore. Maybe it's too little, too late. Maybe not. He has to know that it's likely that the only reason he still has a job is because USC has an interim president and top coaches aren't going to want to walk into that type of situation.
If the team wins, everything will be fine and the boosters, etc. will quiet down. End of the day, Trojan fans, etc. don't really care who the coach is as long as the team wins.
I don't think anyone is expecting an unbeaten season or a playoff this year. But there has to be obvious improvement.
