#1 - Biggest need is a kickass coach. DUH.

#2 - UMn from the 50s until the 90s, didn't want to invest in football. They were literally planning on doing what Chicago did and were going to discontinue football, back in the 50s, but then the Gophers won the Natl Title in 1960 and so they kept football, but never gave it any money. Not until the 90s when Glen Mason showed up and got them winning a few games again, then when he asked for money, the admin, because of pressure from the B1G Conf, started to put money towards football. Since then we've just been trying to find a good coach.

All Dantonio did was try to restore MSU to what it was when Biggie Munn turned the football team over to someone else and concentrated on doing the same for the entire Athletic Dept.

Tennessee was the real champ in 1951, and MSU didn't even play in a bowl game in 1952. Ga Tech went 12-0 and smoked a top 10 team in the Sugar Bowl. What Dantonio did was more impressive in a much more difficult era of football, especially for Northern teams.
