I have not looked at Michigan, but perhaps that is the reason they are under-rated. I happen to think OSU is over-rated. I do not think they are the 2nd best team in the country. People will counter "look at their schedule". Why does that matter? Weak schedule does not make you better. This is exactly what is wrong with pre-season polls. We make an assumption on the teams. Then we make an assumption on the schedule. Basically, the pre-season poll is a derivative or a derivative.

This is generally true, but some schedules CAN be evaluated. There are teams whose schedule is riddled with FCS and directional schools. No matter how good those schools turn out in their respective conferences they won't be any match for any top ranked team. Prime example of this is Louisville and TAMU. They play mostly nobodies all year long with the exception of a game or two.

I think Northwestern might surprise some people and win back to back bowl games. I would wager that they will finish ahead of Michigan and Nebraska in the final rankings and will finish 3rd or higher for the conference in the final rankings. Nearly every team goes into that game thinking it's a walk over and they get punched in the mouth.

I think the rankings are all justified as far as no team being "overrated" this season.

However I do think USC and Oregon State will be much better than where they are currently ranked. If I had to pick....

Overrated - Ohio State. Even though they have a weak schedule I see them dropping a couple of games and they will take a huge drop if they have two to three loses, but they will not be 2012 USC bad.

Underrated - Northwestern. They will finish in the top 15 and will have the highest jump of those currently ranked.

Oregon is an easy pick outside of Eugene for overrated. Losing a HC the quality of CHip is a huge undertaking.

Not really sure how exactly you could be underrated at #2? Your schedule being weak coupled with the fact that Bama will remain #1 until someone dethrones them is why your #2. Let the season work itself out and everyone will end up where they should end up. This is all just speculation anways...
