There isn’t such a thing as an Asian share, whoever got him was going to get a tv deal in Japan. At worst they will be able to license it out and receive a shit load of money. $70 million is a lot but he deserves every cent and the Dodgers will be fine. It just sucks it’s the Dodgers cause they still aren’t better than the Braves.
Why does it suck because Dodgers aren't better than the Braves?

Lol. 2020 doesn't count. Dog turds haven't won shit.

And who the fuck are you to tell Ohtani where to sign?

LOL. That's right! Only 60 regular season games. It's not even half a season.

You gotta figure he’s paying those California taxes, so that’s really only like 30 dollars.
Crazy. I saw a tweet and I think he’s paying 53% of his salary to taxes and agent fees. Most of that is federal though so he was looking at 45-47 in any other state. When you’re in that salary stratosphere you’ve earned the right to take home 6% less to play and live where you want to be.

Damn, I didn't think about that. When I get a minute I'm going to start a Gofundme page for the Ohtani family. Let's help this kid out!

$70M worth of jerseys? And that pace will continue for 10 years?

On MLB.com, named Dodger jerseys are listed at $135. How many Ohtani jerseys will they sell? 20k? I legit have no idea how many they will sell. But the bigger question is how many EXTRA sales will they get (people who will buy a Dodger jersey either way, but just need to decide between a Betts jersey and a Freeman jersey and an Ohtani jersey don’t count). And will that pace continue for 10 years?

They will absolutely make a lot of that money back. No question. They are gaining market share in Asia. That’s huge. But 700M worth? And actually more than that because they are WAY over the tax threshold. They are spending like the Warriors in regards to tax.

The doggies own their own tv network, so they will profit from this outside of MLB rules, so they won’t need to share a lot of their profits from this signing, and that HUGE.

But 70M per year huge?
You don't think the Dodgers will make 70 mill a year more having Ohtani? They will.

How much are they paying per year?
I wonder how much is being deferred?
They might be paying him like 40 million a year only?
I am guessing he wanted to recruit his buddies like Yamamoto to come to LA.
LA might be the pacific rim again.

Exactly at that level another $5 million a year or whatever doesn't change your life one bit. Not to mention he likely makes almost as much from endorsements and sponsorships.

The Dodgers are going to make so much more than what they are paying him. It's not only his play on the field, but having the unicorn on a team with the ability to market like the Dodgers. It's like when people thought the Dodgers were paying Fernando too much ( there were) but he made waaay much more for them over the years.

I agree, I am just curious about the numbers.
I love that ohtani wanted to defer money so the team can use those resources to secure additional help.
If the season started tomorrow, only Bobby Miller and Ryan pepiot would be read to start a game.

Buehler = who knows. He need to strengthen the arm and might be on a pitch count.
May = recovering from 2nd Tommy John or clean up
Stone = not ready
Sheehan = still too inconsistent
Gosselin = hurt

They need 2 or maybe 3 starters to fill out the rotation. That will cost money. Friedman will have to part with prospects if a trade is made as well.

What do you think all Japanese people know each other?
Nope, but Yamamoto wants to play with other Japanese players per several reports.

Yamamoto and ohtani have played together in the past and were on the Japanese national team as well.

My kid had a travel ball tournament this weekend in Santa Clarita and when news broke about Ohtani mid-day all the kids were going nuts.

They're gonna sell a shitload of jerseys.

Bastardization of the rules. Didn’t the League smack down the Angels for doing something similar with Poo Holes?
