What is this red dirt you speak of?

Red Dirt country. Most of the young acts down here fall into that category. Taking the Outlaws approach that guys like Jerry Jeff, Willie, Waylon, David Allan Coe and that ilk followed in the 70's. Avoid the Nashville machine and just concentrate on making honest music.

Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, Wade Bowen... just to name a few.

My Sporcle playlist has nearly 5000 songs.

I listen to the radio at work because I have no choice other than silence when I get tired of screwing with people on the CB, but there is a classic country station I can pick up most of the time, so it's not bad.

Texas Country is the best genre of country out there today. I'd rather go to Austin than Nashville to enjoy real music.

Is Red Dirt what I call Texas Country? Hank 3, Shooter, Kevin Fowler, Unknown Hinson, etc?

Spotify, not Sporcle.

Yep... Reckless Kelly, Micky and the Motorcars, 11,000 Springs... hell - even Dierks Bentley came up from those roots.

I'm only 2 hours away from Austin, Bro. Love popping down for a quick fix.

Then yes, I enjoy that genre very much.

They all agree that they worship at the feet of the great Robert Earl Keen. Not a bad role model. Never sold out on his music or his integrity. Still one of my absolute favorite songwriters.

REK is one of my all time favorites, easily in my top 10 of all time.

Sounds like something I might like. I can't stand country radio these days. I can't tell one song from the next.

But before I go, has anyone told Float about this place. I know he wouldn't last long, but I haven't seen a good Bipolar rant since I quit the County.

I am a fan of Float, would love to see him join but I agree he might not last much longer than JimJ.
