This is just my opinion, but I think he was calling it on Carlos Bocanegra. Watch #3 when you see it again, still don't agree with it but I understand what he could be thinking

Yeah, England losing may it MUCH less of a deal. They can win and get in now, so it lessens the impact of the call. After all, if the U.S. can't win one game in their group, they don't really deserve to move on, do they?

That said, I think they'd still move on with a tie if England and Slovenia tied as well.
