Versus won't be out for quite some time, but 13-2 will be out soon. I'm going to play it in hopes that it's better than 13, but I don't think 13 was as bad as most thought. A disappointment for any long time franchise player for sure, but it still was better than most other RPG's on the 360 to come out. The overly easy battle system and serious lack of free roaming cities/world map that involved more rewarding, varying side quests was my biggest beef with the game.

Better RPGs for the 360:

Tales of Vesperia
Eternal Sonata
Dragon Age 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Fallout 3
Oblivion
Deux Ex: Human Revolution
Arguably Resonance of Fate

Games which are worse:
Phantasy Star
Enchanted Arms
Nier

I have not played these and must therefore assign them worse by default:
Infinite Undiscovery
The Last Remnant
Fable 2+3 (but most like them)
Magna Carta 2
Star Ocean 4
A few games which I must automatically assume are terrible.

So yes, while 13 might be better than most xbox 360 rpgs, it's only true in the sense that most is more than half, and not really much to write home about. That game was such a disappointment. Gorgeous, sounded stellar, and with an interesting level up system, but the story and characters were bad to mediocre and it is quite possibly the most linear RPG in HISTORY. The equipment was almost all identical, the combat was almost all identical, and only interaction you had with the world consisted of (in order of decreasing frequency): fighting monsters, picking up treasure, talking to save points, cutscenes, and running past npcs who would talk as you went by.

The way I rate games in big series like Final Fantasy is would they be worth buying at their respective release dates had they been the same exact game with a different name. The answer for FF1 through FF10, even though some of them weren't my favorites, would have been yes. 12 is a maybe though I personally hated it. 13 was a big fat no.

Only ones I'm looking forward to are UC3 and R&C: A4O.

Btw I heard NHL '12 has egregious freezing problems. Have they patched that up yet?

I haven't had any freezing issues with NHL 12. The only technical issues I've had are that sometimes when the play is stopped all sound stops for a split second before the whistle, and honestly that's probably either the disc I have or my Xbox on its way out.

Seriously, I have a Super NES from however long ago that still works just fine. The games themselves don't hold save data very well since I haven't played them much and they have no battery charge left, but I tell you one thing - Nintendo made systems to LAST.

ok Dead Island is now on my done list.

4.8 out of 5. This game was a blast. I had 24 hours of gameplay to finish it. not bad for $50 bucks.

so Im on my third go around for this game and am now max level 60 with some bad ass weapons. this may have been one of the most replayable games i have ever played. my character is so powerful that its finally becoming a little boring.

out of 5 I give this game a rating of 4.95 only because I can't complete the level trees

Gears of War 3 owns my soul. And NHL12 I am getting better at. Awaz destroyed me 4-2 with the Flyers (and me the Bruins). He won the fights 3-0.

My defense is horrid when I play, I completely miss all my contact. I will get better and get revenge. Till then, I have grubs to kill.

and as for X-2?

Yeah....

Thanks to the bump, I was able to see that someone dissed my beloved X-2.

Pistols at dawn, motherfucker. I must defend Yuna's honour.

Still haven't gotten NHL 12. Picked up Saints Row though. Quite excellent.

I'm a Resident Evil fan, I can't wait for (estimated) March 12th. Operation Raccoon City is coming out.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of Black Ops though, lol. I never bought MW3 because I heard it was meh.

Thanks to somebody ELSE bumping, I was able to see you responding to my diss of your beloved X-2.

Pistols at dawn sounds great. Except, wait, why is Yuna using pistols? She certainly didn't in FFX!

Here're my issues with FFX-2 (and yes, unfortunately this means I've played it):

The characters - Yuna has done a complete 180 from how she was in FFX, where she was incredibly passive, and now she's all gung-ho about everything. I'm not saying that character development is bad (especially in Yuna's case, holy cow did I dislike her character), but this is a case of moving from one extreme to another. She's all peppy and chirpy and creepy Japanese idol-y and it's not good. Rikku is the same as she was before, which is alright, but sluttier, which is not. I felt dirty playing parts of this game. Not as dirty as Ar Tonelico, but that's another story. And finally Paine, who I'm not really sure why she's in the team. Not sure if that's memory issues or if it just wasn't adequately presented in-game. The three of them together basically seem like the team you would see in a game targeting teenage girls, but the game is a direct sequel to a game which most certainly did NOT target that demographic.

The story - a very slow and confusing start. The way the chapter system works basically makes the majority of the game sidequests, which is weird and confusing. Also all of said sidequests are mandatory if you want the best ending, and that's unfortunate because some of them are kind of difficult to figure out without a guide.

The gameplay - I actually really enjoyed the combat, which is why I finished the game. It's a lot more active than your traditional give menu commands, watch 20-150 second cutscene as you summon Matt Cooke to smash your enemies, repeat until shit dies type thing, which was a pleasant change from FFX. Some of the sidequests you have to do are interesting; some are fetch quests, and some, oddly enough, involve speed math. I like the job system a lot, though the way you swap between jobs in battle has the most ridiculous justification I've ever seen.

The graphics/audio - Well, the reason they called it FFX-2 is because it's more FFX. The graphics are nice for the time and Square always makes shiny cutscenes. I don't remember any of the audio save the two voiced songs, the first of which (which is posted above) was good but really out of left field for a Final Fantasy game, and the second of which fit the setting much better but I didn't care for.

Conclusion: Final Fantasy X-2 is a fun battle system trapped in a mostly nonsensical plot escorted by LOL GIRL POWER TEE HEE characters. I played it; I enjoyed parts of it, but quite frankly, I have no idea why they made it a sequel to FFX. It would have worked a million times better as a game with its own more fleshed out story line, which would have effectively neutered several of my complaints. As it is, it's confusing and obnoxious as hell.
