these increases are freaking insane.\

For Delta - The 2023 Financial Plan that was approved by Council included a 4.9% property tax increase. this is more resonable.
Everything costs more. Not sure what people expected.

And Surrey voted for a mayor to undo all the police transition progress. Did they think that would be free?

a shred of fiscal responsibility?
to not view your constituents as bottomless reserve?

can't speak for Surrey, but in Vancouver, the proposed property tax increase will cost me more that $100 more per month.
that is not insignificant. At a time when lending costs have doubled/tripled in the past year.
If I am getting a raise at work, is it merely to hopefully (after income tax) keep pace for one single form of taxation?

my garbage gets picked up most of the time. unless it snows a tiny bit.
my street gets cleaned once per year ... maybe.

guess they need the $$ to pay for $6 million in office furniture for city hall though.

I won't lie I'm clueless as to what Vancouver's municipal gov spends and what on, or their funding formula etc. but the city is on the low side of property tax rates nationally compared to other cities, in that it's literally the lowest rate in the country:

surprising information - it certainly doesn't feel cheap!
(and on absolute terms it for sure isn't)

A second pigeon wearing a tiny makeshift backpack presumably meant for smuggling drugs has been found at a corrections facility in Abbotsford, B.C., nearly two months to the day after a bird carrying a package of crystal meth was found at the prison next door.

Officers discovered the latest bird wearing its backpack inside Matsqui Institution during a routine search on the morning of Feb. 27, according to its union. The backpack, possibly made from cut-up jeans, was empty — leading guards to believe the bird might have still been in training.
