In Port Alberni c'mon Hank

In Port Alberni there are cops everywhere, not that I zoom around town.

But the trips are so short you don't even need music or radio.

Once on the Island autobahn north of Qualicum which is where I travel most, a radar detector is a must.

And now they have upped the speed limit to 120 km/h on that autobahn stretch to Mt. Washington.

Yup.

When I have to go to Campbell river for meetings I can now push 140 kph without too much worry.

And with DRS enabled, 160....

All that would be even better with some loud song playing that you sing along to. I log almost 70,000 km's a year on the road, without music, or sports talk radio- no chance of sanity

Beware the Malahat.... Painfully slow progress there and cops looking for their quotas...

I'm a lifer... so I know all the spots. Plus I do the trip to Campbell River or Courtenay/Comox every 2 to 3 weeks for work.

I have noticed that people don't flash their headlights as much anymore to warn of an upcoming speed trap. Come on, people, help a brother out.

Some states give tickets to anyone caught flashing headlights to warn others of upcoming speed traps.

People also don't know if the other person is flashing to tell them that their headlights are not on, or if they are just a complete asshole?

Fuckers will bust you for that if they have a chance too.

At least it isn't like drinking and driving where the bust your ass for being almost illegal.

Can you imagine if they started ticketing you for approaching the speed limit but not exceeding it?

"Sir, the speed limit here is 80 KPH and we clocked you at 75 KPH. That reads a yellow warn on my radar unit and we are going to have to impound your car..."

Gotcha....

Idiots drive the Malahat which is why it's so dangerous.

Not you, but others.

They are sure digging up a bunch of trees at the Malahat summit these days (the scenic view has been closed as trucks carrying rocks and soil are using it as a huge dump).

I'm thinking I may have raced past you more than once.....

When I was commuting from Gold River to here for 6 months Mon AM and Fri PM back it got so I could draw a map from memory.

That's quite the commute, Hank. I used to commute from here (Campbell River) to Nimpkish lake (Port McNeill, basically) and then 45 minutes west on a crapola logging road when I was tree spacing back in the '90's. At least I didn't have to do the driving.

I love driving.

And on my 2 weeks just ended vacation I discovered a go kart track in Parksville that is a blast.

.5 km 23 corner track, ~30 MPh speed, carts look sort of like an Indy car.

Flat out the most fun I've had in a while. Giving some fat slow sow a NASCAR nerf entering a corner to squeeze by on the inside.....
