I will forever kick myself for a missed chance with that band. I was a record store manager in 1991 and they came to a club in Baltimore called HammerJacks to do a promo gig, less than 1000 people in the room. The label rep invited me to come. I passed the passes on to another co-worker because I hadn't really heard of them and I'd been to a lot of those things where the band sucked and never amounted to anything.
The guy came in on Monday and said "I see why you like Soundgarden so much, that guy's voice is amazing". It was then that I found out who all was in the band. And the hell of it was, I liked Mother Love Bone (the band that preceded them) and played their record on Friday and Saturday nights. I'd actually heard of them before the dude died. MLB and Soundgarden together and I fucking missed it.
Made up for it 2 years later, though. Vernon Reid of Living Colour was giving a promo performance in DC for is solo jazz album, and the bassist from Tool, two guys from Bad Brains (drummer and guitarist) and the lead singer of Living Colour showed up. They jammed on punk and metal covers for like 4 hours.
