Spike Jonze Wins Best Original Screenplay Oscar for 'Her'
To me, this is really neat. When I knew him, his name wasn't really "Spike" yet, but a lot of people called him that (at his urging). He was a small, skinny, really funny kid behind the counter at Rockville BMX. I'd go down there every few weeks on Sunday, hang out until they closed and like 20 of us would hop on our bikes and/or skateboards and tear Rockville up until well after dark. He eventually moved to California to work as a writer and photographer at a BMX magazine, but we still crossed paths from time to time. He is a genuine, likeable guy. I am so happy for him.
I cracked up when I saw he'd directed "Where the Wild Things Are" because he *always* talked about that book.
