I get that the locals are ill-trained to handle driving in snow. But most of the people there drive giant 4 wheel drive trucks and if the snow was a mud bog they'd hit it at 80mph while screaming "Hey Y'all, WATCH THIS!".


How the fuck does your car catch on fire because of SNOW?

Most of the time the meteorologist get it right. This time the didn't. It was supposed to be a dusting & we got up to 2" in my area. Every business was open & all the kids in school. It started about 10:30 am & it was ice by 2:30 pm. The local governments don't have any equipment other than sand trucks & the traffic was so bad that the trucks couldn't respond in time Now I'm not defending our driving because I got home at around 12:00 & helped people all day get up the hill in front of my house. Basically snow turned to ice, everyone was on the roads getting home from work or picking up the kids from school. TOTAL MAYHEM

Those redneck in their 4X4's & ATV's took a lot of stranded folks home, I was one of those rednecks.

Likely a mix of the following:

Temperature hovering around freezing
People driving too fast for road conditions
Summer tires (very little grip)
* Locking up brakes as soon as skidding starts

* I know what you're thinking anti-lock brakes, right, but people have been taught to pump the brakes if they're not stopping which is the exact wrong thing to do if your vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes.

I wouldn't say that Dash.... Some of it was speed, but most of it is that the Birmingham area sits in a valley surrounded hills & mountains. Not giant mountains, but some nice grades. Traveling on the flat roads was easy for us Southerners in the ice & snow.... But when they came to the hills they would not try with any momentum, the vehicle would stop & the ice would cause the car to slide, many slid into ditches, Then dumb-ass comes along & tries the hill too, sliding into the ditch next to the first car & so on. Most impassable roads where block by cars that had tried & failed. I love snow, but I like the foretasted correctly night snow.... Knowing that when I get up in the morning all I have to do is hang out at the house all day. LOL
