Wow! Wasn't expecting Karen to die so soon. The way last season ended and the way this season started I was expecting her to become a pretty significant character. Wonder who is responsible. Bob maybe? And who was feeding them rats and for what reason. My first guess was 1 of the little girls because they considered them pets, but I don't think that was it. Don't think they'd be out late at night doing that and as they mentioned on Talking Dead the flashlight and the rat were being held too high. This season is looking like it could be even better than last.

The significance of the opening scene of the season was completely lost on me last week but now I get it. They just showed Rick doing some farming and I didn't see what the big deal was. I thought that it was in addition to all of his other duties, but now I see that he was doing that instead of his old duties. Not anymore though. Looks like the old Rick is back.

the way the writers laid out that final 5 minutes it was clear rick was back to making the hard decisions for the good of all

so after that final scene ... right away i thought rick was "cooking with gas again"

Yup that crossed my mind too. Not sure if he would go that far. It seems the obvious thing to do would be to lock them up and lock in isolation. But given that he just had the gas and used it to burn the pigs home I could definitely see it. I'm thinking Bob might be a suspect too. Just because he's new and seems weird. Plus he was present when the doctor was talking about the disease.

It just dawned on me, and forgive me for being cryptic, but I think they are using a plot from the comics post-prison/pre-DC for Karen. Carl will emerge as the major bad-ass, solid second-in-command when this arc is done. Gotta say, I was NOT expecting this sub-plot to be used in the show.

Those of you have read the comics know what I am referring to. I apologize for confusing those who do not.

I thought it was a really good episode last night - one of the best since season 2 for me (partly b/c I wasn't really a fan of the whole governor v. the prison thing partly because I just don't think people would be that combative in a world where they have such odds against them).

Anyhoo, I didn't understand the pigs at all. Couldn't Rick just have gotten on the trailer and gone "yoo hoo, yummy human over here" and slowly led them away?

I just gotta enjoy the show sometimes, but no beefing up of the defenses outside the gates makes me crazy. Put those X-shaped stakes all around the fences. They have time, no? ;)

by no means am i saying thats it was rick 100% ... the writers are probably just playing games with us all as per usual ... but in the comics, there is some major beef between Rick and Tyrese with regards to how their new society is run and the morals that are in effect ... rick pulling off the final scene would help carry/advance such a plotline

going back to last week when we werent accepting "movie world inaccuracies" and questioning the stupid moves some characters made ... :

that final 5 minutes ... rick pours gas on the wood pallets that made up the fencing of the pig pen ... what? they are made out of wood ... you need to pour a gallon of gas on that? right away i thought, save the gas for the vehicles or for heating or for burning walkers ... or ... other stuff

then the scene with Tyrese ... yah ... like i said ... other stuff!

well the momma pig dies of the "sickness" (so they believed) and the piggies were feeding from the teet so :noidea:

i guess he slashed the piggies over the rump so they couldnt run/didnt die right away and thus be easy prey to preoccupy the walkers so the rest of the group could fortify the fence .... good job of that btw ... 2 wooden posts lol

talking dead had a great question with regards to momma pig ... why didnt herschel take a look at the dead pig ... he's a vet

good episode. What about Bob? I want to say Bob Stokey was the one responsible for killing Karen and that other guy, but it seems to convenient doesn't it. I'm sure it is however. he obviously has some background darkness judging by his reaction in the booze section at the mart, he will be a vital role in the story. I also think that little girl (the older daughter of the bearded guy who died) was the one feeding the rats to the walkers. that really explains the build up on certain areas of the fence. they have what 45 people in woodbury there now. Im sure they could have more than 5 people clearing the fences. wouldn't that make it a little quicker? I wonder if the governor is herding walkers close to the prison to make them find it easier. I liked the way the the walkers spread in cell block D without anyone seeing it. I always wondered how it could spread so easily in heavily populated areas. walker stumbles upon a sleeping person, tears out the throat no sound except maybe some muffles and it spreads, confusion, panic etc... Also this new fever may be also more spread out across this epidemic apocalypse, I know they didnt touch on it at all during seasons 1-3 but it could be an added storyline to explain how so many millions turned so quickly at the start. I still cant get their mentality in this world in the prison, I GET that you want to make a new life and feel normal again but seriously how do you hang so many sheets in the prison so its difficult to see what is coming at you in the shower areas. Also sleep with your god damn doors closed people. lol. nice sneak peak on the 3rd episode... that is um ALOT of walkers. a good 7500 they said in talking dead... oy

Number 1: how do they not have a night watchman? Somebody has to stay awake and keep an eye out.

Number 2: Again, their setup sucks. How about you dig a moat around the perimeter of the fence? They break through the fence they fall into a ditch, boom another level of security. It's not like they have much else to do. Also, I feel like they could've put that pigsty wood to better use, or at least had that fire outside the prison so maybe a few walkers got caught in it.

Also, good episode.

Glen was watching then maggie took over in the early morning (the scene where they were in the guard tower) or are you talking inside walking about? yeah I agree.

yep they seem to have found lots of gas to get about. why not bring a tractor back and dig a deep moat....

on talking dead they talked about not wanting to draw attention to the prison from other humans who may be out there with a big smoke plume ... but then ... Rick burned the pallets ... so yah :noidea:

Lol - I thought that as well.

I don't mind suspending my disbelief, but they could make us not work so hard at it.

"Hey - we have a lot of walkers building up. Maybe we should have one person on patrol that kills them all day everyday. We could have two shifts each day, rotate it around. Ya know, because if we do that, then they can't possibly build up and overrun the walls, something we've already experienced before. Gaaahhhh, why bother."

Oh yeah I know you were just throwing it out there as a possibility which it definitely is. I think it could be just about anyone. This is a situation where someone might have been doing what they perceived to be "the greater good" (remember how they almost all agreed to execute Randall?), it could just be a case of someone going crazy, or maybe someone is just plain evil. The only ones I really don't think might have done it would be Herschel or Daryl. They didn't seem to want to hand Michonne over to the Governor for what they might have perceived to be "the greater good". Daryl even said something like "It's just not us." Then when Rick called it off Daryl told him he was making the right call. They were willing to go along with it when it was Rick's call but now they are part of the group calling the shots.

Someone mentioned in TWD thread on the entertainment forum that maybe the Governor has a mole inside the prison. That could be interesting and if so I'm thinking it's Bob. Even if he's not a mole for the Governor my money is still on him for burning the bodies. And if he didn't actually do it, he'll probably get falsely accused of it.

I'm thinking Sasha could be a candidate too. She knew Karen and David both had the cough. She knew her brother was close to Karen and was quite smitten by her. She may not have trusted him to keep his distance (which would have proven to be the right call) and didn't want to risk losing him. It would be quite a twist if Tyreese is on a vengeful crusade to find out who did it only to eventually find out it was his younger sister.

my suspects are

Bob
Carol

Carol only because its so off the cuff and she is acting all survivor and tough mode and showing the kids to do whatever you need to do.

I think mostly its bob

Good call on Carol. Thought there'd be someone wrongfully accused before we found out who did it. Then again Rick will probably keep it quiet to protect her. I've been waiting for Carol to make a bold, misguided move with good intentions. Didn't think this was going to be it though. Nice twist!

Anyone know what Rick saw that allowed him to find out it was Carol? If it was something obvious then I missed it.

Im glad they didnt draw it out. I get tired of that mystery subplot style... ooo theres a killer in the group. of course we know there is one. there are tons.

yeah he was OUT there. he actually made some great points when he cleared his statements but you had to really strain to concentrate on what he was saying. was that an act or was he stoned out of his mind?

at first I thought he was just a twat. but he made some great points at the end. then he made the menstruating comment. wow
