Even if they did make the playoffs, they would be a 1st or at best 2nd round exit. Then the NHL Draft would roll around and we'd all be jealous of the teams picking 1 and 2.

BUT, if they would just go into full-blown 76ers tank mode now, they could likely land McDavid or Eichel. And in 2 years they would be Cup favorites. Imagine a core of:

Connor McDavid
Tyler Seguin
Jamie Benn
Jason Spezza
Val Nichushkin
Brett Ritchie
Cody Eakin
Antoine Roussel
John Klingberg
Julius Honka
Patrick Nemeth

Anyone else in the system now (Hemsky, Garbutt, Horcoff, Cole, Sceviour, McKenzie, Daley, Goligoski, Oleksiak, Jokipakka, Lehtonen, Faksa, Glennie, Campbell... vets and rookies alike... any of these trade chips varying in quality could be used to land draft picks and cap space. Then use those assets to sign or trade for 1 more scoring forward, 2 veteran defensemen, and a great goalie.

That core above plus the 4 additions I listed could easily win a Cup in 2016-2017.

Dishonor for Connor 2015!

Who's on board with me?

the way they're playing they may not even have do it in purpose. I still say they're not as bad as they're playing. Just a team with a shit ton of holes and some underachieving going on.

I know nothing about hockey, and even I know you can't turn the puck over in the neutral zone like they did all night.

Stars waived Lindback and called up Rynnas (pronounced ROO-nus). Lindback was terrible, but Kari has only been marginally better. Truth be told, I don't think there's a goalie in the league who could come off looking good with this team in front of him. I expect Rynnas to struggle too.

Another game, another whipping at the hands of an opponent. Rynnas allowed 5 goals in his debut.

I'm going to keep beating this dead horse after every loss- TANK!!!! Connor McDavid. Tank. Do it.

Yeah put this season to bed. They aren't competing.

Yeah put this season to bed. They aren't competing.

This is the San Antonio Spurs-Tim Duncan year in the NHL. Spurs tanked one year, drafted Duncan #1 overall, then had a decade-long dynasty.

Whichever team gets Connor McDavid gets a Sidney Crosby-level upgrade to the offense. If the Stars were to get him, they could focus all of their FA moves and trades on the defense and goaltending. One year of total suckage is worth landing the next NHL poster boy/legend.

Go out and suck hard!

Won't take much. the offense can have a few faux injuries and that would just about wrap it up cause the defense and goaltending at the current level just won't win games. Worst thing that could happen is to just play hard enough to finish worse than the bottom 2. Tank it on up!

I think If we roll into mid to late January and the team is still playing this bad then I think they completely throw in the towel but it will be really hard to consistently play as bad as Edmonton and Carolina, Buffalo, and Columbus.

The first 3 I would agree, but Columbus has been decimated by injuries. They've got a solid team when healthy. I think we can get into the bottom 3 as long as our defense and goaltending continues this way.

Also, remember that the NHL is going to a weighted draft lottery this season just like the NBA. So a 2nd to last or 3rd to last finish would still give us enough ping pong balls to have a statistical chance to land the top pick. And if the worst team doesn't win the top pick, they are automatically assigned pick #2.

Also important to note is that this year's consensus #2 Jack Eichel is also seen as a once-in-a-generation talent who might only be a hair behind McDavid. The consensus #3 Noah Hanifin is a total stud defenseman who would easily be the #1 overall pick in any other draft class. So getting a top 3 pick would land us a truly elite talent. Basically, we'd be picking between Crosby, Ovechkin, and Weber. Can't go wrong.

What the hell, we didn't give up 5 goals? Did we put the reverse jinx on them?

They're gonna win just enough games to finish 10th or so... no playoffs and just an ok draft pick.

Great win last night. Kari was absolutely stellar and without him and some luck Vancouver could have routed Dallas. Need to get a minimum of 3 points against Calgary & Edmonton.
